[quote=tobinen]Great result although I think the back needs tightening up. Hull were unfortunate not to score IMO.
Tongue in cheek comment I hope
Best defensive record in English football, only allowed Hull 1 shot on target and that was weakly into Fraser's arms.
The media will say Hull were poor but we made them look poor.

Incredible numbers for a club like Southampton 21 goals scored, only 5 against...Tongue in cheek comment I hope

That's 5 less then Chelsea and Man.City and that after 10 games, that's no coincidence.....

Seriously ??I'll admit that Clyne looked out of sorts with Diame's power at times in the first half but, overall, I thought our back 4 was superb. The fact that Hull were limited to just 1 shot on target in the entire game tells you pretty much all you need to know about their performance..
Said it before and I'll say it again, we'd NEVER have managed this last season. Hull are a decent side yes, but to get wins against teams who should really be our equal 4 times on the bounce is incredible. Football doesn't normally work like that!
All the doubters (been quite a few!) about Koeman, Pelle, Bertrand et al, you can eat your words!

So am I the only one who thought we made quite hard work of that? We WERE quite sloppy at the back on numerous occasions but got away with it. We should have also scored about 3 maybe 4 absolutely sitters so we were lucky to hang on. Overall I think we were the better side though but to say we thoroughly deserved it and outplayed them is maybe pushing it a bit....

No sir. I agree with you. At last that what's I made of watching the game on a hooky stream. But this is the good thing to come out of this season - expectations have risen. If we want Saints to end up in Europe in some form then the back needs strengthening/tightening, whatever the stats might say.
I'm looking forward to the first game against Chelsea but before that we have coming up soon Man City, Arsenal and Man Utd in successive games. All very enticing.
Having watched the extended highlights on Football First and MOTD I thought the team were superb in the 2nd half.
To deny a home team NO shots on target through an entire half of football is outstanding. We should have also put the game to bed with the 3 clear cut chances we had.
Home game against Leicester then it's 4 games on the bounce on TV.
Bring it on !

Quite so.Others can ignore the stats, but they speak volumes - still the fewest goals conceded in all 4 English leagues, and by quite some margin.
Supported by Morgan and Big Vic, our defence has been outstanding this season.

I really liked this article about how the top teams should not always have it their own way and that neutrals might be supporting the Saints as they come into the next run of hard games

Leicester fan here. Watched us beat you at saint mary's 2-0 a few seasons ago whilst hiding in your end with a mate of mine. Good times. Don't think it's going to be a win for us though this weekend. We're on a losing run at the moment and you boys are flying high with some very good results. Expecting at least a 3-1 for the saints this saturday.

I am pretty confident of 3 points on Saturday but will take nothing for granted. I am sure you will have a good go and will not give in like Sunderland did. I expect Pearson will get a good reception. Wrong place, wrong time for him I am afraid. I don't know if you've seen this one yet?
