A poor performance last night but as people have said we are now disappointed to only pick up a point away to Villa. Just shows how far this team has come.
I was really disappointed with Villa. Pretty poor for a home side happy to defend for 90 mins and try and catch you on the break. Mo wonder the ground was half full !
I think the next 3 games will be easier as they will all have a go which should make for a more open game.
I also think Steven,8 out of 10, Davies was the big miss last night. Keeps the team ticking along.

Yep. A really negative footballing side. But that's either a lack of spending/finance or their manager. Either way pretty poor...

Now for the hard games

Today will be a good test and looking forward to seeing how we cope wit the stars of City. Hopefully also seeing how they cope with our team. Obviously a tough game, but guessing that Man City will be buoyed by their win on Tuesday

Gutted after that, thought we deserved at least a point. All went to pot when Spider went off, as though we were attacking well enough we struggled with defending slightly. Can't work out why Toby got brought forward instead of Cork coming on instead though. Reckon we should have started Long over Mane too. On to the next one and hopefully my prediction about the season unravelling will prove to be bks.

Edit: Cork was ill, not on bench. Watched it again on MoTD just now and we looked poor. Final 3rd was lacking badly, can't believe I didn't see it. Gutting.

Disappointing. First half seemed to be a stalemate though both teams could've scored.

Second half, the back four just couldn't deal with Citeh's movement IMO. And to concede against 10 men is just embarassing.

I'm not impressed with Wanyama and Mane's mistakes and giving the ball away to easily.

Arsenal will be hoping Saints play as bad as they have for the past 2 games on Wednesday.

Come on Saints, play as well as you have been earlier!

What do you think about Sergios yellow card for diving?
The pundits on telly and radio thought it was a cast iron penalty and it was a bad mistake by the ref.
On past experience Sergio doesn't dive, he stays on his feet and scores.
What do you lot think?

Yeah it was a penalty. I wondered if it looked like he'd started to drop very slightly too early (before Fonte made contact) at one point, but it was exceptionally close. I don't think he dived, he was fouled and it was a penalty. If it had have been, maybe Citeh wouldn't have pressed as hard as they did in the 2nd half and we'd have had longer to react. Mind you, we were ok getting the ball forward, we just had no answers once it got there. Pelle's dropped off the scale a little bit, but hopefully he'll find it again. Tadic just had a bad day at the office. We could have played until midnight and not scored!

Penalty without a doubt IMO but the referee was the other side of him in making the decision and the linesman on that side of he pitch had a total mare from start to finish and seemed to get almost every decision the exact opposite of how I perceived it. He was also shockingly slow and making offside calls way up the pitch from where the line was.

Hey ho, we paid the price in 2 mistakes with then military conversion by MC. The third goal was well worked.

Yet to see the goals on the box but will tune in tonight to MOTD.

Thanks again to SS2 for sorting my tickets and great to see you after 10 or so years for a pre-match few beers beer

Schneiderlin out for tomorrow (tight hamstring) and Cork in, according to the Saint's FB page.

I don't have a very good feeling about tomorrow.

In happier news, the U21s beat Man Utd and are 2nd in the table on goal difference clap

That's a shame; 89th minute....

A draw would've been a good result.

Yes, a bit galling in the end. Forster had a great game too. I hope the injuries picked up aren't serious.

Just read the game report; Southampton with 10 men in the last couple of minutes, Alderweireld was out due to an injury.

Gutting, we easily deserved the point. Foerster had a blinded, and I thought Wanyama was massively important. Clyne and Bertrand both pressing and Davis solid as ever. Mane was woeful when he came on and we struggled losing Cork early doors hurt. Losing Toby at the end sealed it. Shame, we contained well in the first half and took it to them more in the second. They put a few good moves together, but they were pretty average for a "top 4" side.

We played well, came out fighting and can be proud. It's going to be a tough winter, but we did everything we needed to do up to now, so let's keep playing well and see where we end up. 1-0 away to Arsenal still shows intent when you consider all that's gone on.

We were unłucky, but SSN reckoned first half was even , second we defended well but they looked the better team. Seems to conflict with some of the above, but guess some of you boys were there.

Toby is ace. Hope he is back soon

When is JRod back.?

I wasn't there, just watched it on BT. First half we seemed to contain it and defend well plus set up the odd attacking move. Second half we didn't defend as well but we had a go up until around 60mins. Then they cranked it up a gear and we started playing the counter attack. That was going fairly well and it was good end to end stuff, until Long went off, carrying a knock from the first half (I'm guessing). Once Mane and Mayuka were on, you knew it was trouble and then when Toby went off it was game over.

We can be proud of them IMO, it was a good display and though it was a loss, it's still a positive(ish) result bearing in mind we got thumped at home by Citeh a few days before. To have that and then go away to the Emirates and fight tooth and nail for 90% of the game shows our strength.

Indeed, I'd say pretty much the same. Bloody frustrating to watch though when Pelle and Mané miss a couple of chances each. Still third though so look on the bright side; who'd have thought that would've been the case at the start of the season?

Not much consolation but the worst team won. They had two chances (one gifted) and scored both.

If Saints can start finding the back of the net and play that well, I'm looking forward to lots more points.

You have a lot of players comfortable on the ball - 2 players who I think let you down are the lad who need broke RVP in 2 and Long - niether seemed to have the quality of your other players and it broke down with them a lot.
