All gone a bit quiet.

Am I alone in thinking it's a bit odd to disappear off on another holiday when a contract is there for the signing ?

I think it sums him up perfectly at the moment. Good luck Everton!

I can't keep up with this. Had he definitely gone??

I am hearing De Boer is favorite assuming he has left. Happy with the swap.

Not yet, and him jetting off at what appeared to be a crucial time does make me wonder whether it hasn't been as cut and dried as the press on Merseyside would have everyone believe.

The latest word doing the rounds..

The powers that be at Saints have not been happy with RK for a while - he has effectively blocked the 'pathway' to the first team for the Academy lads, he is not well liked by a large contingent of the players, his training sessions and methods are well below where the club expect them to be, he is regarded as arrogant and aloof, and it was only Pelle's injury (which forced the re-introduction of Long) which saved RK's job last Christmas.

The talk is that he never wanted the Everton job (still doesn't) and only wanted to use Moshiri's offer as a bargaining tool to improve the terms of the contract he'd already verbally agreed with Saints.

This appears to have backfired monumentally on Koeman with Saints standing fast, refusing to move on their original offer and insisting that he signs an extension now or not at all

Erwin & Jan are both royally hacked off at Koeman because neither of them want to leave Southampton and they feel that RK should have consulted with them before playing ultimatum games with SFC.

As a result of the above, RK spat the dummy and jetted off on an unplanned holiday to try and get his head together.

If the situation isn't resolved exactly as Saints want, they'd be willing to send RK off on 12 months garden leave.

In trying to be cute and vastly over-valuing his own position at SFC, RK appears to have backed himself into a corner, has [further] alienated himself from management and fans alike and may well have damaged his reputation and long term prospects for managing a 'big' club in the future.

All in all, a bit of a sorry situation but, if the above proves to be in any way on the money, it's good to see SFC showing some backbone.

Some of it aligns well with what I'd been told from a contact at SMS, some of it doesn't sit entirely right - for instance, and putting aside the top 10 finishes engineered by Koeman over the past 2 seasons, if the club really wasn't happy with the manager, why offer him a contract extension with improved terms ?

One way or another, I suspect we'll see resolution in the week.

If he uses the academy players the owners can sell the senior team's more interesting players plus the successful academy players and trouser the proceeds. Again.

This story popped up on an Everton forum, apparently comes from a guy called Jack Schitt (!) who claims to be in the know. It's strange that he claims your board have been unhappy with RK on a number of fronts for some time, but still offered him a new deal, something doesn't ring true there. I have no doubt that RK has been swayed by the money on offer at EFC and if he does a decent job then I am sure he will be tempted by a big money offer elsewhere when and if the time comes, that's the nature of football these days. I am led to believe that the whole thing will be announced tomorrow now that the clubs have agreed terms and RK is back from holiday, I suspect it's true but then non of us really knows the truth do we?

(That's the short version, by the way!)

That's the biggest fly in the ointment for a lot of people, me included initially. But, we've still finished 7th and 6th, and the system is working. If you were the board, would you give him the boot? Apparently he was close in the winter, though I'm not sure I buy that personally.

A few guys who claim to be ITK have posted things over the last few months that, when read at the time seemed far fetched, regarding getting shot of RK in the future rather than him leaving of his own accord. Now when you go back and read them, a lot of them make sense. Was the above written with all that taken into consideration, or is there a genuine link?

A few of these guys knew about the Lallana and Clyne moves way before they surfaced. They've got credibility, and Jack Schitt is one of them. I guess we'll never know.

I guess we will know in the fullness of time, but I'm of the opinion that much of this stuff is made up and some of it is actually spin perpetrated by the clubs themselves. Many blues believe Everton have spun stuff onto forums in a PR offensive and I wouldn't be too surprised if the same was true here.

I firmly believe RK went for the money and budget offered by an ambitious owner, which was in stark contrast to what Saints were offering. I am told he didn't want to go and that is what swung it, your owner has been taken by surprise based on assurances from RK and is now very upset and is playing hardball, which has held the process up. I just made all that up by the way!

A sentiment echoed by the club in their far-from-gushing official farewell:

'Southampton Football Club can today confirm it has accepted the resignation of First Team Manager Ronald Koeman, and completed negotiations with Everton over his move to Goodison Park.

The search has already begun for the right appointment who can take the club to the next level and build on our track record of recent success, which culminated in a sixth-place finish in last season's Premier League, as well as qualification for the group stages of the Europa League.

Our focus now is to build on our long-term plan, and work with a new management team who share both the club's and our supporters' values and ambitions.'

Presumably it will be someone cheaper who won't object when the 1st team is sold to the highest bidder along with the best of the academy players.

C'mon Saints, prove me wrong. Please.

Very strange move by RK, but if he wants all that cash then fair enough. £5m compensation goes a long way towards his replacement and some change left over.

As long as he doesn't buy some Saints players (deal rumoured to have have block clauses) then fine. Pochettino and RK have been decent appointments so no reason why the Saints board can't find a third.

Whilst it's disappointing he's leaving no one knows the background to it so I wish him well and am thankful for the work he did which was as good as it's been for Saints in the last 20 years.

Looks like it'll be another rebuilding of both squad and management over the preseason frown
