Another great win and this time at Arsenal. It may have been an Arsenal B team, but you can only beat what is put in front of you. Semi-finals!!!
To be fair, it was half a Saints B team too. Mind you, the line between A team and B team is getting more and more faint under the tinkerman Paul_B said:
fk me sideways...Clasie actually scored!! Great finish too! I hope that'll bring him some confidence to up his game! Fantastic all-round performance this evening...Yoshida is a new man under Puel it seems! And Sims, well I just love watching him... And Boufal again... I could go on! Well pleased!
Liverpool in the Semis?? :-)
A lot of the Arsenal fans on one of their boards comparing Yoshida to Godzilla after that game. Maybe he's VVD's future replacement? Liverpool in the Semis?? :-)
I love watching Sims too. Can't believe it took so long to get him in the first team, when you see some of the things he was doing in the reserves.
A great performance last night. Forget all the media blah, blah, blah we were superb. A complete team performance. Every player doing their jobs really well.
Saturday for me is not as important as yesterday and next Thursday. The two cup games can really push our season on.
Liverhampton will be a different challenge than Arsenal. Hope the outcome is different than our last league cup semi in '87.

Agreed, rarely do I point the blame directly on a manager but it must be a tactical decision to play five midfielders in a line across the pitch with no depth. Given the amount of time their giant defensive midfielder was given I'd have looked like a Pirlo-esque playmaker too.
Our refusal to press the opposition is baffling. Why won't he let players go between the lines?
Thought Redmond had a good game though...
(No, no he didn't. Awful performance, you can visibly see his confidence dwindling away when he's on the ball. Tadic did more in fifteen minutes than Redmond did all game)

Redmond was difficult to watch, almost felt sorry for him. Their goal came through one mistake, this whole European tour was never going to be easy and I was amazed by the reaction around me in the stands at the final whistle. I can't shift the feeling there is something fundamentally wrong at the club.
With the players/talent we have, we should be achieving more. We should be smashing sides like Beer Sheva, they are championship level at best, yet we struggle to draw. Is it the tactics?? Can Puel not motivate the players? Is there unrest with all this talk of Fonte, VVD etc etc??
I've not been one to criticise Puel, but it's becoming more apparent to me that he might not be the right person for the job.
The second half of this season is going to be a struggle...

Having been to every game this season last night was unfortunately the norm.
You can count our impressive displays on one hand.
Very disappointed last night. A chance to progress in Europe from a very average group and failed miserably.
With Charlie looking likely to be out for a few weeks we really need some new fire power up front and,for me,someone in midfield who's initial thought is a forward run or forward pass.
It's going to be a long hard winter !!

Oh we've got two midfields who try to pass forwards. Hojbjerg and Romeu.
Course, they're our DEFENSIVE midfielders! None of the 'attacking' ones try to play through balls, with the possible exception of Tadic.
Redmond doesn't need to, as he's developed the tactic of running along the wing and then coming to a complete halt just outside the box, which gives the opposition plenty of time to fill the spaces and mark a man. Of course, he'll always be able to find Ward-Prowse, who will either
A) Shoot at the legs of the player in front of him
B) Pass it sideways
C) Pass it backwards
D) Pass it back to Redmond, and the process repeats itself
It's a good job we're good at defending, because we certainly aren't much cop at scoring.

That first half was probably the poorest 45mins of football I've watched in a long while. The only positive was I had money on Nil-Nil.
Long's miss of an open goal from a couple of yards out just typifies our goal scoring woes.
That was J Rod. Thought he played well though, good to see him complete 90mins.Long's miss of an open goal from a couple of yards out just typifies our goal scoring woes.
