One of the worst games at St Marys. Not just this season but ever !!!
We have really gone backwards this season. Tempo all wrong, tactics all wrong and too many square pegs in round holes.
At least I only have 5 more games to endure laughlaugh

He doesn't exactly strike me as an inspirational manager...

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if there was substance to that article.

As much as I've tried to warm to Puel, it simply hasn't happened. I get zero inspiration from his interviews, I think he is tactically naive (and negative) and there's clear signs that a number of players simply don't respect him.

If the latter point is in any way true, the club may well need to act fast with regard to the manager to avoid another mass exodus from St Mary's this summer.

Puel certainly hasn't produced the performances that Koeman and Pochettino's teams did, at least not as frequently.

Missing VvD has not helped his cause but I don't think the performance level is there even with VvD playing.

A source I read today on FB, seems to think he's had a fall out with Bertrand, and Redmond!?

Was good to see a bit of gamesmanship from Forster and the boys before Milner took his penalty. Great save too!

Defensively, very well organised and did well to negate any threats - and at least they've learned not to let Coutinho cut in from the left before curling one into the top right corner.

Offensively though, pretty uninspiring and uninventive - same old story this season. Have to feel for Gabbiadini - he ran his socks off but had little support.

Should never be too unhappy to take a point from a side in the top 4and would have gladly taken that result before the game.

And 4 shutouts against Liverpool this season - it's not all bad.

Less deflated than the 0-0 bore draw against Hull, but very disappointed not to come away without a win - Utd were there for the taking last night.

No service to Gabbiadini (again) - other than the penalty, I'm not sure he had more than one or two touches during the first half. For a player with so much guile and goal awarness, we really do need to get the ball to him more often.

Redmond look sharp and eager during the first half, Stephens & Yoshida mopped up pretty much everything coming their way, Targett was OK after a spell out of the team but, other than that, not much else to report.

Their 'keeper had a an excellent game and, but for a string of saves, we'd have been 3 points better off.

I must be the only one who thought their keeper did everything that was expected of him, but nothing above and beyond (apart from the pen).

Thought Stephens was one of the best on the pitch again, he's really coming on. Gabbi feeding off scraps again, Redmond looked sharp but clumsy in possession at times. Romeu his usual industrious self. Boufal had flashes of speeding the game up when he game on, and Tadic didn't then slow it down as much as normal, which helped. They don't get along on the pitch though, it's got to be one or the other.
Steven Davis MIA again - CDM just isn't his role. Clasie should have started, but they can't drop Davo because they made him vice-captain. Good to see Targett back, but jesus he needs to improve his crosses!

It shows how far the club has come, that many fans are disgruntled that we only got a draw against Man Utd. In any other situation, it would have been fine (like when we held Liverpool to the same at the beginning of the season), but when you've have some of the dour games we've had all season, it makes it harder to take.

Don't understand some fans wanting him gone.
He's only been here a season and got to Wembley and finished 8th (probably). Not sure a team like Southampton can hope for much more than that (Europa League at a push occasionally) as they have no chance of breaking into the top six consistently as they don't have the resources, fan base etc.
I know the entertainment value has been dire and lack of goals a major issue (but is that the managers fault?) Jrod and Austin injured, Long having a terrible season and VanDijk out haven't helped.
I'd like to keep him another season.
