A lot of games unbeaten and some decent football. Need to keep up the run and then hope Ipswich, Leeds and Leicester don’t do as well in the remaining 22 games . Looking good for a play off spot. Need to shore the defence up a bit more
Leeds have a dreadful record in the play-offs.

I am as optimistic as a Saints fan as I have been for some time. Nice football, good possession and continued attacking rather than sitting back with only a goal in the bag.

Fingers crossed this continues.

Indeed we have which is why plenty of us Leeds fans believe a play-off finish is as good as saying another season in the Championship! Worse, it will probably be more than one additional season in the Championship because a number of our better players will almost certainly leave in the summer if we're not promoted....

I was explaining to a Liverpool fan what it means to be a fan of a team where if you are in the premier league you lose more than you win and in the championship you might have a winning season.
We never start a season expecting to win a trophy or the league. We don't expect to buy £50m players and winning a local derby or beating Man City in a 1 off game is enough.

He did not get it
It's a weird one isn't it. I've really enjoyed this season way more than I thought I would (apart from the st spell earlier in the season). I feel more affinity with this team than any Saints team in years. It's been good having that feeling that we actually stand a decent chance of winning most games, and seeing that happen. But success in this league means going up to the PL where we're just going to get smashed every week unless we spend £1bn which is clearly never going to happen! It wouldn't be very enjoyable in this league if we were average and didn't stand a chance of going up but where's the middle ground? It would be amazing if we could transfer this feel good, winning mentality and form to the PL but I don't think that will happen bar some weird miracle.

In summary, I think I enjoy the Chamionship more but it doesn't feel like it matters as much......

How are you feeling now mate out of interest? Only asking as my feelings pretty much mirror yours, and I'm definitely guarded about a one season bounce-back.

Getting my ticket this morning for Liverpool away so we're going to find out pretty quickly what going up will feel like. Not sure if RM's possession game will wash with them one iota, and Klopp will want it all this season starting with the FA Cup.

Only just found this thread after rejoining PH recently.

It’s not only the club that needs the Premier League’s millions but the City does too. Only a few clubs in the championship bring large numbers but all of the Premier league do and that fills hotels, bars and restaurants.
Let’s face it most of this league is sh!te. Three of the top five are from the Premier league and are miles better than all the rest.
One year in this league is more than enough.

Totally. When we went it cost over 300 jobs (staff, contractors, wider supply chains). Has a human cost too.

Trouble is, our football is better in the Championship.

Have to say life in the Championship is pretty good, too - for starters, not having to endure VAR makes for a much more enjoyable experience.

In the day I followed Southampton and now from afar I still like to watch on MOTD. But in those 60 years I have had far more disappointments than great moments. I suppose the best when we beat Wolves 9-3 and won the Cup really.

There’s a remote possibility we could be at Wembley 3 times this summer…

Highs and lows, some in the same game.

Going 2 down at home to Liverpool, missing a pen and having to watch Klopp sprint 50 yards down the touchline, punching the air like a madman was not a high point.

But going on to win the match, and watching Koeman ripping Klopp by going on a touchline run of his own, more than made up for that hehe

That will cause a major headache for the FA and the EFL. The cup final is on the Saturday and the playoff final is on the Sunday !!!!!!
Our team and football is better in the championship but we have a better team and a better manager.
I think that to be tested against the best is what the club is striving for.

We have Liverpool away to contend with first smile

I'm enjoying the season but it does feel 2nd best. I'm enjoying winning for a change, looking forward to games much more but it's really not the same as the Prem, but we get spanked a lot in the Prem

Nice to see some players develop and get some good game time

Saw we were 2-0 down and thought "oh dear, that's the start of the implosion!" but then to see we won 5-3 was great!

Huddersfield deserved a draw, but glad we won.

Still feeling the same way to be honest. It's quite strange going into every game thinking we should get a result and then even stranger consistently getting results.

Today following online and seeing us go 2 down, like someone above said my thoughts were 'here we go, the bubble has burst'. To then come back and win like we did shows there is more about this team than any Saints team in recent years. Having said that, and with all due respect, it is 'only' Huddersfield and I do still think we would struggle in the PL as the gulf between the leagues is huge.

The gulf is huge because as as soon as you drop out of the premier league all your premier league quality players leave straight away leaving you with only the players of championship standard or nobody wants.

We've still got a few PL quality players.....certainly not a whole team full though.
