Superb win on Saturday. The Newcastle game is the real test now. Completely sold out so the atmosphere should be awesome. I'm loving the buzz around the club again, all credit to Monk and his team.
PONTUS JANSONNS MAGIC, HE WEARS A MAGIC HAT!
Hadn't realised the Newcastle game was already a sell-out; must be the first time that's happened for several years and as you say the atmosphere should be cracking!PONTUS JANSONNS MAGIC, HE WEARS A MAGIC HAT!
Gary Monks on his way out & going to Reading according to this.

So Newcastle were just too good and we made Rotherham look better then they are. I'll still take 5th at this stage.

Oh great, another Italian with what seems to be an equally vague business but a lot of front. Still, at least it isn't Chinese funded.
I did look at the table on Saturday night and think "...wtf? How on earth did we get there?" Amazing how we do well when Cellino is quiet and out of the public spotlight, so this deal rumour might be the last thing we need.

Gave us a real game tonight well done guys
Thanks, was worried it could be a cricket score tonight but we seemed to compete reasonably well albeit against a weakened Liverpool team! As other recent posts have said, I'm not quite sure how we've managed to find ourselves in a play-off place and I'll be slightly surprised if we manage to stay there to the end of the season unless there's money to invest in the January transfer window. However, credit to Garry Monk and the squad for what they've achieved of late as a relegation dogfight looked odds-on only a couple of months ago!
Hmm, I see Cellino has now been banned from all football activities by the FA for 18 months (see link below). I've never held a torch for the bloke (far from it!) but I just hope this doesn't affect things on the pitch; IMO Monk and the squad have done a really good job over the last couple of months and it would have been nice to be able to focus on that without any distractions concerning the owner. Still, suppose it wouldn't be Leeds if we didn't have complications of some sort....

Well, a disappointing result at Brighton last Friday but we bounced back with a decent win against 3rd placed Reading last night; however, given we were the home team I was pretty surprised to see the latter was achieved with only 23% possession! From comments made by Garry Monk after the game it seems like he feels the squad is a bit lacking in depth- he made a comment to the effect we can't afford to lose any more players through injury - so I wonder if he'll get any backing from the owner to bring in one or two more in the January transfer window? Given the results over the last couple of months you'd like to think Cellino would support him in the transfer market, especially as it looks like the Championship is going to be close fought once again (at least for the play-off places).
Being honest I still don't see us getting promoted this season but having said that you look at some of the rivals for the play-off places and they're not really any better than us; therefore, strengthening the squad next month could just make the difference (assuming of course suitable players are available and want to come to Leeds!).

Good run of results and now the 50% purchase has finally been announced!

It does make me wonder if rumours inside the club of a new owner have been partly responsible for the improvement. That, and knowing Cellino will have to be at arms length for 18 months. Is much known about the "new" bloke's background? Knowing our luck, it will be another owner with no money, using Leeds as a tax dodge and selling half the assets at the crucial point in the season. I can't see that having 2 owners, both with 50% is going to be a good thing.
The new chaps background has been fully dug into by the usual Leeds bloggers etc and he seems to be kosher. Made his money in sports rights distribution amongst other things. The company he cofounded recently sold a 65% stake to Chinese investors so he's got some cash behind him.
Cellino's ban is due to start soon so let's see what idiot replaces him temporarily but hopefully Radrizzani will take up his option to buy the remaning 50% in the summer. In the meantime we need to lock down the contracts for Monk and the loan players. Could do with some new signings too to keep up the momentum. Annoyingly Reading and Hudderste keep sneaking wins but I'm hoping they start dropping points soon.

On the face of it no big deal to beat a League 2 team in the FA cup last night but, considering how poor we were in the first half, I think the team responded well and showed a bit of much needed character in the second half to turn things around. In fairness to Cambridge they gave it a right good go (as you'd expect) but from 1-0 down that was the sort of game we'd have probably lost in recent seasons; therefore, credit to Garry Monk as he seems to have instilled a bit more fight and belief than we've seen for a while.
A bit disappointing to lose Jansson for the game against Derby though - one of the big improvements from last season has been our defence and he and Bartley seem to have formed a pretty solid centre back pairing. Nevertheless, I think the rest of the season could be interesting and, for the first time in ages, possibly for the right reasons!

Well Reading just lost at home to QPR tonight so let's hope we can keep the pressure on by beating Derby tomorrow; won't be easy but it's the sort of home game we need to be winning!Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
