After last night I think that's the first time this season we've been in the top two without having played more games than at least some of the other promotion contenders? I still see it going right to the wire but we do at least have our destiny in our own hands, something that didn't look especially likely after losing to Preston and WBA just after Xmas....
I just think what should have been if we had won those 2 as was expected. But after a difficult start to the season we've got ourselves in a position to challenge for an automatic promotion spot and I'm genuinely surprised by that; going back a couple of months I thought the play-offs was the best we could hope for but if we can keep playing the way we are then top two is achievable. Being able to sustain our current performance level for another 13 games won't be easy though and, even though they've both had wobbles of late, both Southampton and Ipswich are still right with us - any dip in form from us and they're in a position to take advantage....
Farke does just seem to have them in a bit of a zen-like state of effortless form right now. We're often winning games without drama, which will help with energy reserves. I've never felt more relaxed about something with this much at stake with Leeds - I'd be more surprised if we didn't go up at this point.
Yes, at the start of the year, our defence couldn't defend, and we seemed to have no good attacking options at all. It seemed like even a play-off position was far from guaranteed, but we are now 15 points / 5 wins above the lowest play-off position and +28 goal difference. I'm taking absolutely nothing for granted though, I know as well as anyone just how Leeds can implode.
It feels like we have exactly the right manager, who has the right attitude, and who "gets" Leeds and who is bringing his players on and up to a higher level. After Bielsa leaving, I didn't think we would be quite so lucky.

Keep thinking back to that first month or so of the season when we were mid-table and were fielding a starting 11 that included Shackleton, Joffy and Poveda and how, if we'd have started as strongly as we should have done, where we'd be now.
As mentioned above, I don't think I've ever felt more confident in such a big game (although I'm quite prepared for my optimism to be destroyed by 10pm tonight!).
Win this though and our next league games are the dogs, Stoke, Wendies & Millwall which on paper look like 12 points.

How we won that tonight I really don't know - Leicester neutralised our best players for most of the game and should have been 3 or 4 up before we scored but I'll take it! I still think they'll go up as champions - and deservedly so - but we've now got a great chance of joining them in the automatic promotion places.
A cliché, but what an advert for the Championship. It's a strange feeling because the whole point of being in the Championship is to get out of it, but the intensity and quality can often be better than the Premier League. There'll be some sore bodies tomorrow because that was 100mph stuff for 90 minutes.
Leicester were brilliant tactically for 70 minutes. Even when we got into their final third they packed the penalty box out and looked able to cope with everything we threw at them. They're a top side and should have killed the game off countless times.
I'm still not quite sure how we've come away with a win, but Rutter deserves a special mention because his strength and quality were pivotal in all three goals.

As a fellow Wakefield resident might say: Unbelievable!
Leics, So'ton and Ipswich fans must now be in shock.
9 matches in 2024. 9 in a row won. First time since 1931. 19 games at home in a row unbeaten.
Clean sheets:7
Scored:22. Conceded:2.
4/4 wins against the current top 2. (Don't mention Southampton)
Good to see young Mr Gray getting his first.
Unbelievable, but I'll take it.

Daylight (floodlight) robbery but I'll take it. MOT In fairness probably the only game this season were we have been lucky.
After at least 2 maybe 3 games that we should have won by a large amount and lost... I dont care They were also unlucky with the disallowed goal but without VAR that's the way it goes in the Championship; cost us a win against WBA at ER earlier in the season when a handball wasn't spotted for their goal....
Went into that game hoping for a repeat of that home match against West Brom however it was clear within the first 20 mins that it wouldn’t be the case. Then it all went mental in the last 20 mins.
Atmosphere was mental. There is nothing quite like a packed Elland Road under the light when that sort of turnaround happens on the pitch. Woken up this morning with a very sore throat and some new bruises but it was all worth it. What a team, what a win!

Watching it at home you could sense the atmosphere! Everyone seen the video from 3 miles away on twitter/X - just the glow of ER in the dark and the sound of Marching On Together echoing in the night. Jeeeeezz........
Read that Maresca reckons they controlled the game for 80 minutes. Hmmm. I'd disagree - I think they controlled the first 25/30 minutes of the second half but the introduction of Bamford and James (and then Roberts) changed the dynamic a lot after 65 minutes. Doesn't matter anyway - if thats you're way of looking at it Enzo, Leeds controlled 10 minutes and scored 3 goals. You controlled it for 80 and scored 1 which isn't very good
On and on....
