Marcelo did not get us promoted in his first season, despite a full pre season.

Farke did not have a full preseason, he inherited a load of poor players signed by Jesse most of whom jumped ship.

At the start of the season if someone had said "With 3 matches to go, you will be third, and 2 points off top, with best goal difference in the league, having beaten the top 2 home and away would you take that?"

99.9999% of fans would have agreed

Don't disagree with that and in actual fact if someone had said the same at the turn of the year I'd have taken that as well (and probably thought the person suggesting it was on something given how far behind Leicester and Ipswich we were at that stage!). But the fact is we were top going into the international break - with our destiny in our own hands - and that inevitably alters expectations. Having got ourselves into such a good position I don't think 99.9999% of fans will be happy with what they've seen in the last five games (and to be fair I'm sure the players and Daniel Farke aren't happy either).

But this is Leeds and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is something we've had an ability to do for as long as I can remember (which is quite a while now as I started supporting the club over 50 years ago!).

Mad end to the season, we played really well against 'boro, had a chance to go top and with a bit of breathing space and yet didn't and towards the end, our keeper made a couple of amazing saves, making the point feel like a relief rather than disappointment lol!

Couldn't make it up and Southampton now have a real say in the top two.

Not sure who I want to go up, don't take it the wrong way, but never been a fan of Leeds, but Farke is likeable regardless of the Norwich connection and you've played some good football....that I do like.... Leicester have cheated their way to the top and Southampton have Russell Martin who I cannot stand.

Would take us and Leeds to go up. Fingers cross huh?

(I think Ipswich will miss out on last day btw)

So,

Thanks Cardiff!!!

For me, I thinks it’s Ipswich’s to lose automatic promotion.
We are 2 points behind with 6 points to get before they play on Saturday when they play Hull who could still be fighting for a possible play off.
I really think it’s down to QPR on Friday, that result will determine so many outcomes.
If we win both this week we have a massive upper hand.

I agree it might put us in a decent position but it's now out of our hands - if Leicester and Ipswich win their remaining games we're in the playoffs regardless of what we do.

And besides, based on current form I'm not terribly confident we'll beat either Boro or QPR, never mind both! To do that we need to be scoring goals and we haven't managed a single one in either of our last two games (and one of those was against Blackburn who have one of the worst defensive records in the Championship). Hope I'm wrong but I think those dropped points in our last two home games will prove crucial in determining the automatic promotion places...

True but they're two points ahead and hence can afford slightly more in the way of slip-ups than we can...

My current mindset is that if we win both this week we're going up. If we drop any points then it's playoffs. Tonight will be tough I think. Tbh I'm expecting playoffs now, I just am not convinced they have the mental strength to get over the line.

Again not at our best but we got the result tonight even though Boro looked more than decent for much of the game. Hopefully we can follow this up at QPR on Friday night!

First goal, Gnonto does an Ayling flop to try and win a free kick. They nick the ball and score an absolutely calamitous goal. Second goal, Rutter faffs around with the ball like he often does, they nick the ball and they score a great goal.

What the hell that second half was I'll never know but it was awful to watch. Just shut up shop against a team that were there to be absolutely mullered. Once again, Farke's subs having absolutely zero impact on the game. 3 points though and I suppose at the minute, thats what counts - anything other than a win last night would have meant the playoffs. Go again vs QPR which should hopefully see us 4 points above Ipswich with just Southampton to play at ER on the final day. Ipswich have Hull and Coventry to play... Its going to be tight...

Oh and 1 more win puts us on 93 points which is what we had when Bielsa took us up with a 10 point gap over WBA. Freak season this year...

Boro’s defending was as bad as yours mostly, for the goals. Good job no VAR in the Championship though - Gnonto way offside for the third - way off enough that the lino should have seen it …

If you can get a result at QPR, who need one more win to be safe I think, it’ll pile the pressure back on Ipswich. Leics v Saints tonight, another good ‘un in the pipeline. Leics up and Saints out of the race or Leics looking over their shoulder and Saints back in with a shout if not a draw …

I am no Leeds fan but that 'offside' makes up for the terrible decision in the Sunderland game.
The standard of refs n the Championship is Sunday League standard for the most part.

On par with the PL then. Standard of refs is shocking at the moment

This. Swings and roundabouts... dodgy challenge on the stroke of half time which wasn't even given as a yellow, the 2/3 blatant penalties vs Sunderland we should have had etc. That ref and the lino last night were bloody awful. Play stopping multiple times expecting fouls to be given (both sides when there were very blatant fouls being committed) and the ref just kept his whistle out of his mouth.

Yes, in our good run pre the international break our defence had looked pretty solid but it's looked anything but in the last few games. But at least we rediscovered the ability to score goals last night!

Gnonto was definitely offside but to be fair to the linesman I think his view might have been obscured by Bamford? And as others have said, although the absence of VAR helped us last night there have been other occasions this season where it hasn't; the Sunderland handball that wasn't spotted a couple of games ago is a recent example and another that was missed against WBA early in the season allowed a goal to stand which deprived us of two points. You just have to hope these things will even out over the course of the season - and besides, watching the Forest game at the weekend VAR's not exactly a guarantee the officials will get things right either!!

Jeez its getting close QPR and Southampton, technically neither have got anything to go for and Ipswich have Hull City, Coventry and Huddersfield.

Getting nervous now... but its our own making for messing up the last few games.

At this stage I'd settle for us going into the Southampton game with our destiny in our own hands but for that to happen I think realistically we need to win tonight - if Ipswich are only one or two points behind with two games in hand I think the odds will be stacked very much in their favour.

I can't see us getting past Hull and Coventry unscathed and Huddersfield could well end up needing something against us last day.

If that's the case, we've got the 3 toughest games on paper with Southampton being out of contention now and seemingly imploding.

My remaining confidence is in Hirst and Burns being back in training and I pray they're up to full fitness for the playoffs, those two key players I think would give us a massive boost and i'd be confident of beating anyone. Ali is decent, but the change from Moore to him (and dare I say, I feel Hirst was better than Moore) is quite a step, which consiering Ali was in L2 in Jan is in no way criticism, just will take a little time to adjust.

What a great season it's been though....

Still time for Leicester to lose last two? hehe (one can hope)
