mercfunder said: The legacy I am referring to is the re-generation of the area surrounding the ground, in a particular poor part of Manchester, the investment in Manchester Airport, local community project etc. If the Sheikh gets "bored" and finds a new toy, Manchester will still have benefited from his presence, that is not something any body could ever say about the Glazers.
Success on the field will raise the clubs profile globally and the glory hunters will come, however if it generates revenue to support the club, it is only the same as what United have done. Spend 5 minuted round Old Trafford and you can't move for tourists, I have had foreign clients who have insisted on visiting the ground, not on match days or during the season just so they can say they have been there. Personally I would never want to see The Etihad like that, however that is probably the route to us becoming self-funding. Well, we will see how it all pans out - I think the point of this is though that - unlike your mate winning the lottery - while what the Sheik is doing may benefit MCFC & the immediate surrounding area (all of which cost, as has been pointed out, will be off-settable for FFP ) there are other issues. The concern is the distortion that is being created in the PL and then in the wider player market that may damage other clubs (not necessarily Utd, that's maybe a bit to big & ugly) but definitly others. Also it may specifically irreperably damage smaller clubs in the North West and in the Manchester area in particular - the likes of PNE , Oldham etc because it will suck the local talent pool dry. As to raising the Club's profile globally, it will & it won't because as much as it will do that, its Abhu Dhabi & Etihad's profile that of course this is really all about. Manchester City football club is just a vehicle in the game to make that happen. This is really the whole raison d'etre of your football club now . Wouldn't trade ya that one.

Your opinion, seem to remember that there wasn't too many protests when Qatar Investments were rumored to be buying MUFC.

Your opinion, seem to remember that there wasn't too many protests when Qatar Investments were rumored to be buying MUFC. Nobody seems to know where that rumour started I definitly don't think it would have been ideal to end up with an "our Arabs are richer than your Arabs" thing going on. I'd be quite surprised if the Glazers are not the last private owners of United. Once its floated it would take ridiculous sums to take it private again so I can't see it happening. The Glazers are nothing if not ruthless business people - they know they will get the most for their United shares by floating the thing and that is what they will do, perhaps not all at once, but eventually. In fact that is probably the best route to stability for CIty as well if the thing can be built into a profitable business. If it is then floated and the ownership spread far & wide & a proper board is installed to manage it as a public company it will achieve the same kind of long term stability. Of course it will then have to fend for itself financially .

Wonder if the bbc can bring themselves to splashing the opening scenes to MOTD with a touch of blue next season?

That rumour has been doing the rounds for at least a week, hopefully its nothing more than journalistic mischief. Its time to sit back now and enjoy the endless press speculation ( much of it likely to be completely unfounded / utter b ks ) about the comings and goings at City - methinks they are going to have a field day this summer.

I don't think Toure will go - I don't think City would sell him for a start.
I do think this is an agent trying to get some summer holiday money and a bit of a pay rise for his employer.

No offence, but I can't see that. He'll want to move somewhere sunny to see out the rest of his career. Been proved wrong on many occasions before though!

It's much sunnier down here than in Manchester I hope it's true, I think we'll spend well, we might as well have Toure while we're at it

Moving on to next season, an honest question: How many games has Adam Johnson start or played for you lot this year?
Always impressed me even as a United fan but seems to have fallen out of favour and now isn't even worthy of an England spot.
