968 said: Yeah Newcastle are challenging for 5th but I think Spurs aren't safe and ad much as BCM thinks there not in contention for 5th, they very much are. If Chelsea can continue their recent trend of solid defense and more ideas up front, there's no reason why 4th isn't possible. I agree with that, if however you do pip us to 4th it will surely be a dark day for the EPL as a competition. Same old teams in the same positions, it will just highlight the fact that only money (s tloads of it) will bring success. Not good at all.

Spuds are 4th highest net spenders over the last 5 years behind City, Chelsea and Liverpool. http://www.transferleague.co.uk/league-tables/2006...In fact in terms of purchases you've not spent that much less than Chelsea (and take a look at the Gooners' figures)

Not the same clubs in same positions, Citeh will finish 2nd. Also Arsenal have spent less money than you, MUCH less money and yet they're above you. Again. So even money can't buy you success.

The only thing it will highlight is just how much Spurs choked in the second half of the season!

I don't think you'll find any one that says Spurs don't have the talent to finish in the top four. Do you really think that if your players were paid more, they'd be higher up the table? There is no reason why Spurs should finish outside the top four, other than stamina and mentality.

Good win today, a shakey 10 minutes in the 2nd half, but a great result today and with Arsenal slipping up, its a 3 way battle for 2 spots again... Do you not consider Newcastle to be a part of the above ? If they win tomorrow they will have the same points as ye Think it's more of a 2 way battle for 5th personally If Newcastle win today, its a 4 way battle for 2 spots. No, I hadn't really thought of them as contenders, but I guess we should. They've been right up there all season, and fair play to them...

Arsenal away, the Barcodes and then Liverpool away amongst others. What a run-in.

Could be an interesting game tonight. I'm not sure that it's as wrapped up as people are making out. Benfica are good on the attack and an away goal will effectively make it 0-0 again. I must say that this game is a bit of a distraction, as is the FA cup semi final as we need to knuckle down in the league if we have any hope of challenging for 4th. I think we've blown it to be completely honest, our chance was to beat Tottenham at home, but we were too defensive, and a point was not good enough. It seems Tottenham are starting to come out of their dip at the right time, but who knows.
As much as tonight is a distraction, I do think the momentum a result would create is positive. So I hope we go for a good win, but hope we have something left in the tank to take to the weekend game against Wigan, who have also hit their straps a bit more recently.

We don't need fourth as we will qualify for next year by winning this year. So all we need to do is concentrate on tonight, beating Barca, and then winning the final. Oh and we will win the FA Cup too!
Ok - flame away.... but I am right!

I can see what you're saying but I disagree that tonights game is a distraction - the ambition must be to win the thing this year rather than accept qualification for next year as the ultimate prize. I would put out the reserve team in the FA cup SF though... Couldn't really give a toss whether we win that or not.

Well unless the FA change the kick off times we'll be playing the FA cup SF at 6pm on Sunday before a CL SF on Wednesday. I'd rather we had a fresh, fit squad for the CL if we get there so that we could at least give Barca a game.
