Yes, that was during our flirting with Div 3 era. As said, Spuds have never been in that lowly position, so how your attendances would have held up we'll never know.. Also, we had been infiltrated by the far right hooligan element which was rife at that time, so a lot of people just wouldn't go, even if they wanted to.

We have had some dire times at Chelsea, which, to bring us back on track, makes the repeated claims of glory hunters all the more laughable!!

The problem with Man C And Chelsea is that the game is becoming the plaything of thw megarich. And Thus buying the way to success. This in turn gets the impresionable small kids hanging on to the coat tails of the current successful club, as they dont want to be left out. I have plenty of respect for the supporters of the lower league teams who will never see a rich sugar daddy and yet follow them to the ends of the earth. The crunch wil come if and when the fair play clauses kick in, and the clubshave torun on their generated income and not some back pocket of a Russian/Arab etc.
Then when the players leave these clubs like rats ofrom a ship as the wages are not there anymore and they cannot 'attract' top quality players because they can get megabucks at the latest rich kids toy, then the fan base at Chelsea will go back to what it was...meagre at best. The weird fact is Man C have always had a large following. I understand Spurs and Wst Ham have as well. Althought the WH move might not increase the fanbase to fill the new stadium. However one of my mates has just joined the Waiting list dor a ST at spurs and is number 37000 on it!! so even putting in a 60k seater he is still going to be 10k from the top!!
I daresay that if i was in an position like the russian etc , icould, in a ew seasons gt Aldershot into the Champions League and winning it. It is as they say, just a question of finances
Having told twig just how cap i think John Tery is, i thouhtby his response he was a 'True blue' of some 4 years standing. Confirmed by his postings on this thread!

1. You might want to consider forming an opinion of your own rather than regurgitating crap that's already been done to death

2. If you run your rantings through a spell checker before posting they might make more sense.

The fact that you think John Tery (sic) is a cap (sic) footballer, shows in itself you know nothing at all about football. Suggest you keep away the football forums and put your efforts into an passing and English Language GCSE.

Words fail me. What a load of bitter garbage.I can only assume you haven't been reading the above posts. Chelsea had lowish attendances during a dark era for the club between roughly 1980 and 1993 but your miles off in your opinions about their pre-Abramovic fan base, miles off.
They have "historically" (i.e. since 1905, not just the 80's) been amongst the very best supported clubs in English football.
And as for the fairly desperate hope that all these kids up and down the land will desert them the moment FFP kicks in you're delusional.
The fan base right now is I would say the 4th largest in the England, Spurs are close certainly but its way ahead of City, Newcastle, Villa and Everton nowadays. Their international support is probably 3rd in England and that adds up to revenue.
Fact is that even if FFP works (Highly doubtful) it's just designed to allow clubs to spend in relation to their income. Check out CFC's turnover and compare it to Spurs and City, that's technically the most important stat under FFP.Lets be clear it's designed to make sure the big clubs remain the big clubs not to allow the plucky underdog to rise, Forest like, and triumph.

To get this thread back on topic, even if only vaguely, I'm going to have another go at Malouda. Watching the Spain / France match last night, he was poor. If he had tracked back, Xavi Alonso wouldn't have had a free header. I do hope the powers that be we're watching that, and work on getting shot of him.

I'm in Spain at the moment, and watched the match in the local bar. The Spaniards think they can win this competition. God only knows what it will be like here if they do - they were driving round blowing their car horns until 3am this morning.

Twig,

When i get a laptop that doesn't miss out letters!! the posts may make more sense, but at least you understood the drift of them!

And Pray tell what are GCSE's? When i took them they were GCE's and a lot harder than the dumbing down they are today, as you no doubt are aware of.

All i will say, and i generalise here, is that out of the countless fans i see in my travels that support the London clubs, the Chelsea fans are mostly in the 20's and mouth breathers, Arsenal, an eclectic selection that are of more mature age, Spurs, old farts who live in the past and always thinking its going to be their year, next year. West Ham who are still saying its another transitional year. Fulham who just sit there and dream and consist mostly of families.
I just didn't have the will to go through 470 pages of reading the Chelsipedia that started in the mid 90's. Just put my thoughts down. For those on here that don't like it. I do not apologise. As i said. I find John Terry odious in the extreme, both on and off the field. He is just the best we have at the moment. In fact if King at spurs had not had so many injuries, Terry would be in front of his TV watching. As one of the papers said recently, Chelsea, rolling in money, lacking in class.
Looking at the other clubs, Arsenal a club more tight with their money than Spurs. Spurs, whose chairman wants top dollar for players like Jenas and Bentley, yet quibbles about knocking off a few bob to get the player the club desperately needs. I understand Cahill had agreed everything, when Levy wanted to knock the price down a bit more,so Cahill in effect told him to ps off, who buys players like Saha and Nelsen(WTF) is trying to get another cheap deal for the Belgian CH, i can see that going the same way as Cahill, gets rid of the second? best English manager, (but what a gobby bloke) he is. and now, if we belive the papers, will do the transfers by means of a committee!!!!!. Should be fun watching who turns out for them next year.West Ham is run by porn barons, possibly they are mutually attracted to each other!
So be grateful for what you have at the moment, the russian, could have bought Fulham, but chose you. When he gets fed up with his plaything, and throws the toys out of the pram. it will be back to the mediocrity you once knew. and join Arsenal, West Ham, Spurs, et al, who can only dream of such wealth.

Malouda was very poor! I can't see why we are keeping him, either that or no one will buy him!

It is a rather desperate attempt to sell football tickets to formula one fans if you ask me, aye BCM? Heavily supported top four clubs would resort to no such measures.

Thats true, just about the only sensible thing youve managed so far in either of your essays.
And its that ground swell of support that will see CFC continue to be a major player.
And Roman has shown absolutely no sign whatsoever that he's about to go away anytime soon.Dont eat yourself up waiting for it, life's short
