If he gives it to charity, which he dam well should, that's great
Earlier this year through Wayne's own determination to give something back the Wayne Rooney Charitable Foundation was established. All proceeds from the testimonial match will be distributed through the Foundation to four chosen charity partners. These are the NSPCC, Claire House Children's hospice, Alder Hey Children's hospital and the Manchester United Foundation. Each has been selected because of Wayne's personal commitment to the organisation's and the children they help in the North West and across the UK. The testimonial match will provide a spectacular lift off for the Foundation hopefully raising vital funds for children, as well as providing the opportunity to pay tribute to Wayne's remarkable career achievements. m3sye said:
Doesn't pretty much every player give the gate receipt to the charity they work with anyway? No bad thing surely?
It is the timing I object to not the existence, have a testimonial during (ideally at the end of) your last season before retiring. If not it is just a "charity match", again a good thing.Testimonial match - from Wikipedia
A testimonial match or testimonial game, often referred to simply as a testimonial, is a practice in some sports, particularly in football in the United Kingdom, where a club has a match to honour a player for service to the club.

You objected you didnt go..anything else is really not important..look at it as a pre season game as that is pretty much what both managers will have done.. and many fans I imagine were quite happy to go as there was a st load there... I bet you even if it had been just a pre season game and not just a friendly the attendance would have been pretty much the same as fans are eager to now see their teams as its been a long break.Testimonial match - from Wikipedia

as I clearly stated having a charity match and raising money for charity is a great thing to do (obviously), good on all involved, just prefer "testimonials" term to be used for one-off end-of-career matches (althogh I admit I didn't know it was a 10 year anniversary)Mata will be gone Hilly, I'd put my shirt on it, the bookies have made us favourites and I hope they're right. Stones saga is finally over it seems, even if City have jumped the gun. He is a great prospect but I think it's in everyone's best interests that he goes, I think the Chelsea affair affected him last season and it will be interesting to see how he develops under Pep, good luck to him.
