The whole 'bitter' thing started after Heysel, when an Everton team with a realistic shot at winning the European Cup was denied the opportunity when English clubs were banned. Ultimately it led to the break up of that team, Kendall went to Spain, as did Lineker, Steven and Stevens went to Rangers and we lost our way. The only reds I know who refer to us as 'bitters' are the Norwegian and Cornish contingent, they have little appreciation of the context or the history and absolutely no idea of the impact on EFC. We are not bitter, but we have good reason to regret our misfortune.
All true, I remember it well as it was my 20th birthday I watched the horror unfold 39 Italians dead and 600 injured! It has been largely forgotten however Hillsborough has become some sort of religious event now?

Don't get me wrong I'm not unsympathetic, both were terrible tragedies.

Bloody rumblings of Barca considering RK should LE finish at the end of the season. Bloody well hope not. We could be on to something next season, especially if he can prise Rooney for what could be his swansong couple of seasons. I do not think he would want to go to China, after all its not that he needs the money. COYB.

I wouldn't want Rooney to be honest. He's had a great career, but at 31 he almost looks like his best days are behind him. We should be looking at better players than him. Where would he improve the team? He's not going to be in the starting 11 is he?

RK must see something in Rooney and where he would fit in

I don't know why Everton would want Rooney back either.
He left when it looked like he would be one of the greats, he turned out to be a good footballer but not a great one and now his form has waned big time why should Everton get lumbered with him??

I would welcome him if he came on a free and wages were sensible.

I think it a tad unfair to label England and United's top ever goal scorer 'good', he has been one of the best in the game (though not at Messi, Ronaldo, Bale levels) for some time. I think it would be a massive coup for Everton if he comes back, probably more about image, media attention and commercial interest than football, but that is the game these days. I would welcome him back as a clear statement of intent.

Is it a statement of intent though? Surely we should be looking at younger players? His goals have dried up in the last few years, when he started at United he was amazing. But 8 goals in 29 appearances last year, 12 in 33 the year before, 17 in 31 before that and 12 in 32. 1 in 3 goals is ok, but his stats are only heading one way.

Do you play him behind Lukaku? Then who does he push out? I'd rather Barkley there and a new face/Lookman. Do you play him deeper? Then I'd rather Schneiderlin, Davies and Gueye play there.

Even if he drops his wages by a massive margin, he's still going to be £100k + a week (if not more) which could be better spent elsewhere. Yes he's the best product from our academy of all time, but his best days are behind him. Nostalgia is the about the past, not the future. And would he want to come back 'home' to be a bit part player? I'd welcome him with open arms when he finishes playing as I think he's have a lot to offer with the kids and I think that Rhino would be over joyed to have him in his set up. But we need to look forwards not back smile

two years ago I'd have said yes. Now however its a no from me. He still has plenty to offer as a footballer, but its for clubs looking to get in and stay in the PL. Reminds me of that year Hull bought a lot of 'nearly has-beens' and it worked great for about a season.

But his wages will be the issue. Surely he should just go to the US or China?

His England career defines him sadly. We should have been in Semi Finals with a shout of a good result. But we struggled to make QF's during his time.

I understand the footballing objections in terms of who would make way, where would you play him etc. but I think this is a commercial decision. If the club really is moving toward a new stadium, investment in infrastructure and team, then having Rooney around will generate global interest and send out a clear signal as to our status and ambition, it's not about sentimentality at all. Moshiri looks to be the real deal (I will reserve full judgement until the stadium plans are finalised) and I think Rooney coming back is part of his plan, just as securing Koeman and Walsh were.

I do not believe Rooney would want China a last payday he does not need, I would hope he would love to come back to his boyhood club and yes play a bit part soak up the hero worship and just enjoy life. Lets see if he does go to China if he does he is one greedy ba$ard

Re Rooney. Marcus is spot on, he wont be coming back purely for playing reasons, like it or not he will be the marquee signing in the summer. We tried in January but we were knocked back. Yes Stretford was in China negiotating deals for some of his players, but Colleen wont take the kids to China fact, from a couple of reliable sources.
Rooney has just got to dot the "Is" and cross the "Ts" with us and United and he will be in a blue shirt next season.

Myself personally? I think he will have something to prove and will reignite his career, and also go on to get his badges while he is here. He is one of the biggest names in world football, and still, don't forget England captain, it will be a massive statement.

Fairly out classed but a good entertaining game, some horrendous defending at times but shows what we can do on the break.

You just can't afford to give goals away like the second one, no team can ... VERY avoidable!
