The Official Everton thread...
Discussion
I know this isn't one of the busier football threads on PH, even though you are about as successful as Spurs, but I am quite surprised that no one has an opinion on an article in a certain tabloid today on Ross Barkley and the subsequent suspension of the author of the article.
Though I am sure employees of said paper will still be more than welcome at your club.

I see that the mayor Liverpool is the person that has reported this as a race crime. Not RB.
Well, i'm guessing that's going to be an embarrassing waste of time.
It can't be a race crime if there is no way of physically knowing that Ross has some racial background, and there is no visual evidence that Ross is of mixed race that I can see. Furthermore, the comments aren't directly comparing RB with a gorilla in terms ethnicity. He seems to be comparing him based on build and intelligence levels. There's many people that have been compared with gorillas. But it isn't because they have a grandad from Nigeria is it? And if you were being a racist, you wouldn't say someone was 'like a majestic and powerful king of the jungle' you would say, like all the other racists, that the were 'like a chimp'. That would be derogatory due to historical connotations with racism, but being 'like a gorilla' isn't historically linked to racisms in terms of football.
The Liverpool mayor is clearly trying to score points against the hated Sun and it's former editor, and indeed, can also be criticised for both trivialising race hate crime and also by bringing this to the attention of the hundreds of thousands of retarded opposition fans out there. What does RB face in the future when Everton are drawn against some of the clubs out there that still have a rascist band of supporters?
It's not race hate. It's just hate. Kelvin needs to be retired asap. I have no idea why he chose to attack Ross but I'm 100% sure that it's not race related and I see no evidence that KM is a racist in any other way.
I think the Liverpool mayor is showing himself to be a bit of a self publicist and probably really doesn't care about RB's feeling at all.

A statement from Everton has confirmed that the club has banned The Sun newspaper following a controversial Kelvin MacKenzie column about Ross Barkley.
Along with likening Barkley, whose grandfather was born in Nigeria, to a gorilla, MacKenzie described the 23-year-old as 'thick' and 'one of our dimmest footballers'. He also suggested that men from Liverpool who earned similar 'pay packets' to that of the midfielder were drug dealers.
In response to the article, Everton have now confirmed that the club informed The Sun on Friday that it was banned from Goodison Park, the club's training ground and 'all areas of the club's operation'.
The statement continues: 'Whilst we will not dignify any journalist with a response to appalling and indefensible allegations, the newspaper has to know that any attack on the City, either against a much respected community or individual, is not acceptable.'

Allegations....? Deluded hateful opinions yes, allegations, no. I'm afraid that they are allegations in the main mate, you may accuse me of pedantry but you started it Mr Mackenzie alleged that Barkley is one of our dimmest footballers and also called him 'thick', he also alleged that people from Liverpool with money are either drug dealers or footballers. I don't read the Sun and would avoid the author like the plague, but the paper and the man have gone out of their way to insult the city and its people yet again and on the anniversary of Hillsborough, difficult to fathom and impossible to idly accept. They are beneath the gutter IMHO and I support the decision of the club.
