So the club have come out and stated that cup competitions will not be a priority next season the argument being that those clubs that win a cup outside of the top 6 are likely to get relegated!

I guess I live in hope that we might win silverware in my life time but now I'm resigned to the club not having ambition and see Newcastle as just in football to make money.
So who's not renewing their season ticket?
I think I'm just going to get tickets some games and ditch the season ticket.
I read the minutes from the fan forum this morning and it does make for grim reading.http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/foot...

The general gist was that thinks are to remain as they are. Ashley isn't actively selling the club, we are not chasing cups, we can't compete with the top 6, transfer budget is undisclosed, Pardew is staying put plus some other bits.
The stat they pulled out to justify not making a cup run does seem to hold water, but obviously shows the squad will remain the same size. They were asked what the drop in season ticket renewals was; apparently only 6% or so....

Currently being discussed on TalkSport, as you would imagine no-ones impressed by the decision!
They haven't said anything we didn't already know, but the surprising thing is that they've come out and said it openly. Surely this doesn't help with any sponsorship deals in the future; who wants to sponsor a team with no ambition? While cup runs might not generate a lot of revenue, they do get TV time and that raises awareness of the team and sponsors.
Poor decision from NUFC in my opinion. Saying it out loud only has negative consequences.
You have to ask the question 'what type of player would want to play for a club with no ambition?'
In fact I can see players like Krull looking for a move and who can blame him
Player recruitment will be a challenge on the back of this lack of ambition, and those who do come in are likely to stay for a season or 2 before wanting to move on.
http://www.nufc.com/ have provided more extensive statistics to counter the clubs research on the perils of cup runs!

A couple of interesting stories from the last week or so...
I found this quite an interesting read - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/what-p...
Who's staying and who's going - http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20140523/magpies-an...
In brief - Leaving are Shola Ameobi, Loic Remy, Luuk de Jong, Dan Gosling ,Conor Newton, Michael Richardson, Steven Logan, Brandon Miele and Jonathan Mitchell.
So our first team is now:-
Goalkeepers:
Tim Krul
Rob Elliot
Defenders:
Fabricio Coloccini
Davide Santon
Mike Williamson
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa
Ryan Taylor
Massadio Haidara
Mathieu Debuchy
Steven Taylor
James Tavernier
Paul Dummett
Midfielders:
Moussa Sissoko
Vurnon Anita
Hatem Ben Arfa
Jonas Gutierrez
Gael Bigirimana
Sylvain Marveaux
Cheick Tiote
Gabriel Obertan
Haris Vuckic
Strikers:
Papiss Cisse
Yoan Gouffran
Sammy Ameobi
I noticed this interesting piece on the BBC website about out of contract players - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27579533. Quite a few in there that would bolster the squad nicely for the next couple of years whilst some of the youngsters are progressing. The problem being we wouldn't pay their wages and what could possibly persuade any of those to move to Newcastle if it's not money?
And finally seems Dummett has been getting a bit of stick from the odd Uruguay supporter - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27534751
