Judging from his 2 games for us, Colback deserves a crack at the England squad. Fair play to the lad thumbup

The SMB forum is in complete uproar at the minute hehe

Aye, some interesting articles in the papers today. The rumour was we had £60 million to spend (how ever true that is...), of which we have spent circa £35m. I'm guessing Ashley might allow Pards to spend a maximum of £15m on a very good striker, so Remy could well be back in the frame. Not sure though, especially with the Gunners down a striker now...

If we didn't get a striker, I don't think I start predicting doom straight away. I think Riveria has got some ability to him and Ferreyra is still to get a first team game, so I'm not quite in panic mode yet.

Lets see how the next 6 games pan out....

Where or who came up with the ginger Pirlo moniker? I've nothing against Colback as such but he's distinctly average, so on that basis he probably deserves his place in the squad.

Just me who wants to see a centre back over a striker then? Our back line is paper thin.

I think the strikers we've brought in just need a few games to get up to speed, I think if Rivière gets a goal he'll be sorted and start banging them in... I hope!!

If the existing strikers (including the new lads) start banging them in, then I think attention will quickly turn to the back line. Currently the worry is that we haven't scored anything as yet.

Newcastle of old wouldn't worry about defenders, we'd just focus on scoring one more than the opposition. It's a different story now, just look how poor defending cost Liverpool the league last season.

Looks like Mbiwa is going on load to Marseille as well, so we have even less defenders!

I wonder if off loading Mbiwa is somehow linked to the Micah Richards rumours. Pardew has made no secret of the fact he has to offload a few players to bring in replacements....

No idea, I assume it was given to him while at Sunderland.

He's only played a few games for us, but I rate him. He has worked his ass off in those few games and seems to be everywhere at once.

I wouldn't call him technically gifted, but he seems pretty solid. It still early days for him at our place, so lets see how he gets on.

Regarding his England call up; I think he might standout as a real workhorse for England, something we are desperately lacking.

Well you'd expect 3pts from Palace at home, but TBH I think we have to be happy with a point given that we came back from behind twice. I don't know where the 7 mins of injury time came from, but I think it was a fair result as it didn't look like Zaha was offside for his disallowed goal.

Defensively we were shocking a pub team.

The lack of a cutting edge is blatant, the goals did not hide the fact.

The other issue, Colbac aside, is that we are very lightweight, getting bullied by a very mediocre team at best does not bode well.

Well deadline day us nearly upon us.

A quiet one I suspect, a lot of noise, but none "across the line".

Well regarding the Palace game, I thought we were pretty poor up front. A unsual comment, given that we scored 3, but bear with me.

We absolutely dominated possession, yet never seemed to really threaten to score. If any other Premier League team had that much possession, they would have banged in twice the number we did.

The performance of the players was at two completely different ends of the spectrum. Colo, Sissoko and Aarons looked like world beaters; constantly driving forward, chasing the ball and making some excellent runs. The rest of the team might as well have stayed at home for what their contribution was worth.

We really are lacking up front and defensively; if we don't do something very so, it's going to be a very long season.

Aarons though; what a fantastic performance. If he keeps going like this, the lad is going to be massive!

Don't expect to see anything from us in the window today.

I always though possession was a good indicator of who would win but Chelsea only had 38% possession and won 6-3 likewise Liverpool only had 39% and won 3-0. For me we weren't focused at the start of both half's and gave away easy goals with little challenge. Our tactics are failing us and we don't seem to be able to change shape to compensate and please tell me someone what on earth we do in training regarding set plays because we are just as poor as last season.

Aarons though is a GEM! I think he has a great future ahead of him!

I feel sorry for the sky presenter camped outside of our training ground because its likely to be a non event, I'm guessing they hope Cisse will find his form again and will not sign anyone else.

They could use the same footage from outside the training ground that they recorded over the last few years.

No one would notice the difference!

What kind of a player are we getting in the form of Ben Arfa? Ive heard that he had been frozen out of the team?

Came to us with the label of l'enfant terrible, according to previous managers he is a bit of a trouble maker.

That said, he is very talented and a gifted flair player. Sit him in the No 10 role with the order to attack and let him get on with it. Certainly a crowd favourite and he is unreal when he is 'on it'.

Now for the not so good stuff:

He will not defend, track back or generally try and retrieve the ball. 8 times out of 10 he will lose the ball in the middle of the pitch, but will leave it for others to deal with.
He is quite selfish on the ball and would rather take the shot than pass to somebody in a better position. He will either be the standout man on the pitch or completely invisible; this seems to be driven by the position of the planets.

In summary, he will delight and frustrate you in equal measures. When he is good, he is very very good. When he is bad, he is a liability.

Gutted to see him go to be honest...

If he's played in the right position and others in the team can cover and your manager doesn't ask him to track back, you have a world beater for one game out of every 3 or 4! He's absolutely class but has a tendancy to take on one too many players. He'll glide past 4 players like Messi but then lose it when a simple release pass is on (unlike Messi). Thing is, when he does score, it tends to be special and he lights up the pitch with moments of pure magic.

I saw some footage on YouTube of a long high ball being lumped up to him and he plucked it out of the air and stopped it dead. It was so good it looked faked. I'm off to try and find the clip...
