What a bizzare situation why would pardew leave? Newcastle are clearly the bigger club, they are in a much better position, he has a million year contract and Ashley has stuck by him through thick and thin, very very strange.

+1. I know he was a pleb at times but most managers are, but it is hard to see how any manager could have achiveved more with this joke of club. I say this as Liverpool fan who lived through the the Hicks/Gilette years so you have my sympathy being run by the clown Ashley. Crazy for fans to want AP out imho
LOL got to laugh at the " joke of club" comment.

Suggest returning to volume (insert number here) of the Liverpool thread and placing comments there smile
Apologies - I was referring specifically to its management and have edited my comment.

In further evidence apparently Collocini is your new manager, Carragher just snorted with laughter live on Sky sports when it was announced rofl

Surely not true, that is Lidl levels of cost saving

The man should've been kicked out of football after the head butt incident, how any club would want him managing them is beyond belief.

No investment from the board, best players sold, rumours no say in transfers, love/hate relationship with the fans. Remember a few months ago fans where calling for his head.

Palace have made him their first choice of manager, I presume he will have money to buy players he wants in Jan, his family is still in that area I believe.

I can certainly see why he wants to make the move.

Not really that bizarre to be honest.

Pardew has a good history with Palace, having played there for years. He'd be moving to a club with less pressure (other than staying in the prem), have more control over transfers and he'd be on double the money. Not to mention working at a club 30 minutes from his house (he still lives in London and commutes to Newcastle).

He'd be leaving a club that has no desire to push into the top six, a fan base that dislikes him 90% of the time and away from a job that comes under risk every few weeks.

If I was Pardew, I'd be desperate to join Palace.

Concerned about our management options if he leaves though. I'm hoping the Baggies secure Pulis to take him out of the mix; Tim Sherwood is another name that I wouldn't be comfortable with...

The sad fact is, for all the ambition us fans have, the club is seen as a massive risk to any manager. We will struggle to get in somebody of a decent calibre as the lack of control is ridiculous and well publicised.

The next 6 months are going to be very tough for us.

Oh, and the Colo link; bonkers. 100% madness and a potential disaster. (So a pretty much nailed on certainty.....)

FML, I love the Toon but I can only take so much.

Being the eternal optimist (not good for a Newcastle fan), I'd love this chain of events to trigger Ashley selling the club.

I think Carver will be Manager for a good while; I don't see us rushing into an appointment any time soon and who ever takes the job will have to work to Ashley's rules, which limits any managers chances of making a name for themselves.
one bit of good news was the report that Sissoko won't be sold but chances of us buying anyone are slim to non existent.

Seen to remember the club giving assurances Cabaye wouldn't be sold too, and Carroll before that. If the price is right, he's gone. Sadly that's the mentality of the Ashley regime.

Ashley confuses me - he is a billionaire (if he floated SD), he (presumably) loves NUFC as a fan.

So he doesn't need the money yet he runs it like a business and drains it of cash (some Geordie friends tell me £15M per year dividend), cashing in on best players.
He is extremely wealthy yet doesn't invest some of his fortune a la Abramovich/Mansour.
As a result he is pretty much universally hated by NUFC fans.

So his club is not successful, everyone hates him and he makes a bit of money he doesn't need confused

I'm not sure he does love Newcastle United as a fan. I was always led to believe he was a Tottenham supporter.

At the end of the day, he is a very shrewd businessman. He came from having nothing to being worth more than Richard Branson, with a reported wealth of around £3.75bn. When he bought Newcastle for £134m he used a further £130m of interest-free personal money to clear some of the clubs debts. It's widely accepted that the club is now "in the black" after coming close to collapse during the Hall era.

The difference between Ashley and the likes of Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour is that he runs the club as a business, not a play thing. Abramovich in particular seems to get a thrill from success, he wants Chelsea to win. Ashley on the other and is happy with mediocrity as long as the club is operating in profit and turning money over.

Wow! I didn't know about the dividend but I guess it makes sense and goes someway to explaining where the money goes and why there is no money to recruit in Jan.
To be honest under the circumstances I doubt if its possible for any manager to do much better than Pardew and with Ashleys form telling him Sissoko won't be sold in Jan probably means he will!
Ashley will be comfortable gambling on us achieving enough points to survive the drop and ensuring the money keeps on coming in.

To be fair there has been a lot of speculation about dividends, but it's all totally unfounded. What is for certain is that he's utilising the club for his own benefit, despite that benefit paling into insignificance when you compare it to the money he earns from Sports Direct. The club does make a profit though, which is quite unusual for a Premier League outfit.

People bemoan the fact Sports Direct get free advertising, which effects commercial profitability, but I think that can be offset by the "interest-free" nature of the loan Ashley has put in.

Ok...how about this for a curve ball all linked in to Ashley and rangers....mccoist for the next toon manager!?!?! Ha, only joking but I haven't got a clue who could / would take over if pardue leaves?

Not a pardue fan or hater but who is better and who would come here?

I admire what pulls achieved at palace last season but after that I'm struggling...not Bruce that's for sure.

Got to say, these rumours of Carver managing the club on a long term basis are scaring the st out of me.

He should have resigned after that incident - how he stayed on was beyond me. Never been a fan of the bloke, player or manager. I think he's been extremely *lucky* to hang on at St James' for as long as he has ( as he would probably admit himself).

So Pulis is off to West Brom thankfully and Steve Bruce and Steve McLaren have both ruled themselves out.

Whoever gets the job, it's going to be quite a surprise...
