I don't think Newcastle is unique in it's positioning, however I do think that Mike Ashley has been the only one to say it outwardly.
As fans, 99% of you will never support another team so they know you are loyal and cannot change your brand (team) The stadium is usually full, shirt sales are high and it's a profitable business....... and therein lies the disconnect. Fans see Newcastle as a team, as a passion, as a community. Ashley sees it as a business like many other owners in football do now. Football has changed from a sport to a business and Newcastle is the example no fan likes to see

The club should belong to the city whose name it bears. Ashley, as a manifestly unfit and improper person, should be forced to sell up to Newcastle City Council for the sum of £1.
And do you actually think that a football club run by Newcastle City Council would fare any better, I've not seen anything quite as funny on PistonHeads for a long long time.....
I'm glad I've entertained you.

It's not a realistic proposal, I understand that. However, if it ever could happen I'm sure the income from match tickets, shirts and whotnot would allow the club to survive in whatever league. It would be a proud club once again, serving what remains a proud city rather than dragging its name through the st on a weekly basis.

Would this be faring any better? Perhaps not in terms of league position (currently parlous), or even revenue (most of which seems to be going straight to Sports Direct in terms of free advertising, etc.) In every other sense it would be faring much, much better. Any of this making sense to you?
Clubs get virtually all their money from TV revenue surely? If you're out of the premiership your revenue, eventually, plummets when the parachute payments stop (not sure what the craic is with them now though).
As for being in a different league biggrinbiggrin some of your horse punching delusional fans still think you deserve to be in the Champions league, you really need to have a reality check, if it wasn't for the likes of my team you would've been in more trouble than you are now. You are now a bottom 6 type of side, get used to it.

I understand your thoughts, I just don't agree with them. Income from bums-on-seats and shirt sales will never pay the wages of decent players in this day and age. It may have 20 years ago but things have moved on and I'm sure that makes sense to you.

As for free advertising for Sports Direct, I'm sure that is true however again that wouldn't be an issue if the performance on the pitch was providing a more entertaining distraction would it? Ashley would be tolerated if the shower who pull on the shirts and stepped on the pitch actually knew what they were supposed to be doing!

Worst run of results in the history of the club.

Says it all really.

The only remarkable thing being that there are teams in a worse position than we are.

Best league in the world my arse.

Sadly you'd be wrong Ray.

Unlike your sorry lot I'd wager. We may be st, but still higher than you as it stands....

Fair enough but check out the Ronnie Gill. You may be mistaken.

I bow to your greater knowledge of when we are crap!

The article I read said it was the worst, but clearly not, I must assume they were referring to Premier League stats.

I'm watching this on the tele and it's shocking to see whats happening with your team.
Giving the ball away from kick off, conceding a corner after 15 seconds and then being asleep when it came in. The players look like they are not committed and it's poor all round. The second goal.... did they all fall asleep?

You have some quality players, but they are not doing anything to make the supporters cheer. 70 minutes left in this one

And I was right.

I can't see us getting a result for the rest of the season, not with this kind of display. If we suffer another relegation it'll be completely deserved and indicative of the poor management at the helm of this club.

I could see the thought of getting a straight red and missing the last three running through every players mind.

Sounds like Carver has accused Williamson face-to-face of committing the foul he got sent off for on purpose so he can miss a couple of games. The wheels have well and truly fallen off.
