Good performance in a shocking season.

However, were still better than our sorry neighbours from down the road.

Must suck to be thaaaaaaaat shiiiiiiiiit!
It doesn't man Ellroy, they're my team & I'm not a deluded knacker. We are what we are, poor you are what you are ,poor. I can accept that, virtually every mag I know can't.

Weird, Ray.

Everyone one I know, knows we're a set of knackers at the minute.

I think where we differ is that we all feel we should be competing. Not winning every thing, but at least competing. That may be the attitude you're picking up on?

Anyway, I'm getting ready to shout on the Smoggies.

Always nice to have all three teams in the top flight.

Why does Heston Bluemethal sit next to Ashley every game?

To be honest I'm pleased Newcastle survived, if we are honest neither of us have much to play for other than the derby games. It was also funny to see Hull go down, who is Bruce going to blame for that? I also hope Middlesbrough go up as well, as three north east teams in the league has got to good for the region.

As for any Newcastle fan gloating over finishing above us I would just ask them to think about the position their club are actually in. John Carver is screaming for the job and sadly I think Mike Ashley is possibly stupid enough to give it to him. I was pleased to see Jonas Gutierrez score, a genuinely honest and good footballer who has successfully fought their tough times.

Anyway, till next season!

Mike Ashley says he won't sell until Newcastle win something or they qualify for the CL.
I wonder who he will leave the club to in his will?

You may mock but I can't help but get the sneaking suspicion that this past few months has been a massive wake-up call for Ashley. Doing just enough to survive is too big of a risk for him to take financially with the new TV money on offer.

I've just watched the TV interview he did with Sky Sports and I suspect we could see some pretty major financial investment from him this summer. Only time will tell.

Thanks very much, I will.

But seriously, pleased you lot survived today. People get all sentimental about the likes of Watford, Bournmouth, Wigan, Bradford or whoever in the PL but I want to see it chock full of big clubs with decent grounds and massive support like Newcastle, Wolves, Leeds and the like.

Stranger things have happened. While showing anything but, he's in the top half of owner wealth & can't have that long left given the substantial, but entirely in keeping, belly.
Chuck in somewhat overly loyal fan base, big crowds, new TV deal etc and you never know. Impossible to predict the whims of these wealthy chaps when it comes to sport.

We should be laughing with Ashley at the helm. One of the richest men in the sport, but sees the club as a money maker. Why does he come to watch if we don't aspire to win anything?

I feel that the interview was to sell STs, nothing else. I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong, but I've seen too much of this club to be overly hopeful. The managerial position needs to be sorted ASAP. The appointment will give us some idea of the ambition of the club. Ancelotti? McLaren? Carver?

Being realistic, you can tell that Ashley is not at all comfortable in front of the TV camera and that's maybe why he's never publically commented on the club before.

Hopefully the recent appalling run of results under Carver will highlight that the board can't carry on mis-managing the club and that he does need to put in place some talent both in the managers seat and on the pitch. It's not about how much money is spent, its about spending it wisely and the first indication of whether there is any ambition will be with the Head Coach announcement which is due on Friday. Please for the love of God, don't let it be Carver......

Looks like www.nufc.com are ahead of everyone Paul; they are stating that were are going to announce McClaren as manager, given the way the club is run I'm not sure if we can expect any better.

It could have been worse, we could have ended up with Allardyce again.
