So McClaren finishes 8th in the Championship having failed to get Derby promoted over the past two seasons, but hey lets give him a premiership club to manage? I may be wrong but I would give him 1 maybe 2 seasons max and we will be in trouble again.

I think of McClaren as a bit of a jouneyman type manager. I'm sure he'll be OK and keep us in the mediocrity we're used. I'm not that excited. I'll get behind him and unlike some others, won't be jumping on his back at the first poor performance or defeat.

I can't help but think of his England days though. Strange team selections and players playing out of position. He really used to frustrate me. Oh and I wonder if he'll stick a bid in for Stuart bloody Downinig.

One thing is for sure, we need new ideas and new management so heopfully he'll get them playing together and with a bit of luck, we'll get some new blood in the team.

We need a radical overhall so glad to see the old guard go. McLaren won the League Cup with the smoggies and got them to the final of the UEFA cup, let's hope for some of that level of success.

McClaren has always been a very good coach but never made the transition to become a manager. Got sacked at Nottingham Forest and Derby.

1) He's better than Carver
2) He's much less of a tt than BFS
3) And Souness
4) He's not Steve Bruce
5) Or Mick McCarthy
6) Or Martin O'bloody'Neill
7) Or Joe fking Kinnear

I'm sure he'll do just fine within his remit*

I can't believe that you sacked Carver after he saved you from relegation, no reward in this game!

I see the club are still being pathetic about the media...only letting the Mirror and Sky into the press conference.

Very true however that Williamson outburst was so unprofessional and am sure did not help his cause.

Good job he will be the head coach then and not the manager.

Can't wait for him to do his Geordie accent - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZnoP4sUV90

Just make sure not to give him an umbrella!

Andy Townsend's wife came up with "wally with the brolly". Apparently she was watching at home, he was co commentating and she called him at half time and said it. He laughed, mentioned it to someone else, word got around and the Daily Mail ran with it as their back page the next day!

Cool story bro!

How's everyone feeling about the '15/'16 season at the moment?

Squad list...

I reckon we might mix things up this year and go for a st first half of the season and a good second half. Finish 11th-14th.

I read that we were going for Mario Ballotelli.
That would be purely belter.

I really hope that rumour dies a death. The last thing we need it Mario on the books, the guy is a walking disaster.

Lots of rumours floating around at the minute, some quite exciting. I'm taking the usual stance though; unless they're pictured holding the shirt then it isn't true.

We are being promised 3-4 signings within the next few weeks though and it looks like we are targeting players with values between £8-15 million.
