Or that their contracts have release clauses for 'bigger'/european teams and they were told when signing that we will sell if a decent offer comes along. So they put in a shift when in the shop window.

Not cynical about things you understand, but it does have a certain logic, undepinned by cashley's buy cheap, sell quick mentality....

^^ Could very well be the case, wish they would string together a few decent results and get out of this mess.

Another deal announced, Seydou Doumbia (Roma and Ivory Coast Striker) brought in on loan until the end of the season. If nothing else, it'll create some competition for places in the forwards but will probably see the end of any speculation about Berahino.

By all accounts that deal was essentially done yesterday.

So my point still stands.

They got him on loan so that we don't have to pay him the wages when we are in the championship next year. (playing Derby)...

The Derby or Derby?

Probably both at this rate.

OMG...... just spent all that money and we are getting thrashed 2-0... We seriously need to get shot of McClaren and bring in Nigal Pearson... because one thing is for sure McClaren is taking us down and Pearson could keep us up....

No matter how many players we buy, with McLaren in charge there is no hope as the bloke does not have a clue.
Why he played Perez up front on his own most of the game is beyond me.

We always get nought from the Toffees.

Glad we signed the central defender and striker with premiership experience we needed in the window though.

Oh, what? We didn't? Oh good that'll be fun then.

After a promising debut game for you guys I see Shelvey has reverted back to his par game of watching the game pass him by while waving his arms wildly and shouting at team-mates to do his running for him.

Woeful. OK it takes time for players to develop a relationship but individually you need to see more effort. Gini was non existent and Sissoko looked disinterested. Perez was never going to be able to fight on his own. It's frustrating to see players left to soak up the pressure without applying it!

6 points from WBA and Chelsea (I fancy Chelsea more than WBA) or we are down. The gap is just starting to widen to those above and if we don't start getting results immediately then I don't think there will be enough games to save us.

Any ideas on a defensive 4?

We're done. All hope has gone for me. Can't see us getting anywhere near enough points to stay up. Can't see us staying above Sunderland. Only saving grace being that McLaren will be gone once we're relegated and I actually think Ashley wants us to come back up and with the resources he has I think we'll bounce straight back.

It's got to be said, I enjoyed our season in the championship more than pretty much any other for the past 20 years, perhaps we should get relegated more often. biggrin

I think we're both down to be honest. We've made some good signings but the wally with the brolley is showing a real lack of understanding of tactics and player positions. Aarons at left back? Little Perez up front on his own against strong centre backs? I can't see us getting enough points to catch up even if Norwich and Swansea fail to go on a run. I think the Norwich/Villa game is huge. If we lose at the weekend again and Villa get turned over (which isn't too difficult to do) then the gap just widens.

I actually think your lot are showing signs of getting better. Defoe is a class finisher and I watched the Man City game and you certainly didn't look like relegation fodder. Don't forget the usual 3 points form the derby biggrin

I think your difficult games coming up may make the miracle come back a stretch too far but you never know, an unexpected 3 points against a big team could push you on. I see nothing in our play to suggest anything other than the big drop.

I think we're down after that performance last night.

My one glimmer of hope lies in the thought that Doumbia might be our saviour?

His recent champions league performances against English clubs would suggest he might be useful. I wish he had come on instead of Mitro...

The wally with a brolly - I love that, haven't heard it in years laugh

As an aside I have put £20 on us to turn Liverpool over, 7/1, we're due a win and I think we can do it.

I saw McClaren's post match interview last night and in all seriousness he looked terrible. He's aged about 15 years in the last couple of months, it looks like the job is taking its toll on him.
