I think it was a fair result as both teams owned a half however what I find beyond belief is the holding and pulling of players in the penalty area and nothing comes out of it.
If these fouls were commited outside of the box they would be given however it seems you can do anything inside the box and get away with it that is unless you trip the opponent.
Mitrovic on one occasion was being held by two players, one on each side.

Pretty fair result. We had more posession, more shots on target but overall, didn't do enough to win it. We are happier with the point than they were after they went ahead. The result doesn't help either of us but at least we stopped the derby rot.

Sunderland fans are just starting to realise what we already know about Sam though. He gets a slight advantage in a game and changes players/tactics to hold out for a draw or keep the win. I think they would have beaten us had he not tried to protect what he had. he doesn't have the players to hold out.

I'm sick of the soap opera to be honest. We spend more money in January than anyone else yet still can't get a result. The defence highlighting the abysmal transfer policy. Its almost dejavu from 12 months ago except this time I think we will drop. Ashley has learnt the square root of fk all about running a football club and the fans suffer as a result.

No doubt John Carver will be in with his CV come the summer and he will be talking about us getting back into the Champions League. I hope the club start planning this morning for life again in the Championship. He's already said there's no more money so if that's the case then I hope we can get more than a few buttons and a bag of balls for the shower of ste that will no doubt exodus as soon as our fate is sealed!

I suspect that Newcastle's goose is now cooked. I would not bet on instant success in the Championship. It's a tough league now and I can see this year's relegated clubs, esp Villa, having real problems.
The risk is that Newcastle become another Leeds.

If Newcastle had the financial clout to keep their squad relatively intact, along with a good manager who can get them working, I think they would be able to ger back into the EPL within a season or so.

Villa though, they're fked. League one beckons

I just don't think the current squad have the type of player who would be up for a Championship fight so I don't share your optimism about coming straight back up. They are showing no 'fight' at the moment and it'll be much harder next year.

I suspect we will have a large clearout and hopefully make enough money to buy some of the better Championship type players to help us get back up. We're a pretty big club for that league with the stadium size, following, etc. so we should be able to attract decent Championship players.

Or I could be living on cloud cookoo land :-0

I think the idiot who hired McClaren should be fired.. no matter what the outcome... They and McCLaren are the reason we will be relegated. A couple of years in the Championship will be the only way to remove Ashley....

Nobody will 'remove' Ashley, he'll only sell up when he want's to. Any time spent in the Championship will have a negative impact on the clubs value and that's when he's least likely to sell. Hopefully he will have learnt from the MacLaren fiasco and will put a quality manager in place should Raffa leave upon relegation.

I still very much hope they scrape enough to stay in the Prem, but after Saturday 'hope' is all that's left as the reality is we're playing like a beaten team so we're already down.

It's not the losing or winning, it's the hope I can't stand.

Also, fk off Ray.

From nufc.com: As always with Newcastle, it's not the disappointment that kills us. It's the hope...

A decent day for us, with results actually going our way for once and, unsurprisingly, effort on the pitch rewarded with goals, points and a clean sheet.

Funny what you can do when you care enough to run around.

I have a feeling that any team that reaches 35 points will stay up. All 3 teams are poor and there's some difficult games for them all. I did a quick reckoner and had Norwich failing to get another victory, and I have us beating palace and getting 2 draws. I hope we get something from Man City but not confident at all.
