You're a championship team too, and, meaning no disrespect, with good reason.
It's a matter of opinion.I wouldn't consider us or Villa true Championship teams; in my eyes it is a team that have been in that league for more than one season. Same as the Premiership; I don't consider Middlesborough a true Prem team until they've lasted a full season without relegation.
That said, we are currently in the Championship. We're fortunate enough to be doing it with a full Premiership squad, so I would be very concerned if we weren't winning most of our games.

I don't think we have anything close to a 'full Premiership squad'. As good as we are doing at the moment, we would be properly struggling in the Premiership with the current squad. We're doing well because Raffa has us playing well, but also because a lot of the squad have found their natural level. We do need to strengthen the squad significantly if we are to avoid another relegation battle next year (on the assumption we will go up) but that isn't taking away how well we are doing.

Assuming we are successful at promotion at the end of this season, I'm not massively concerned with buying a load of new players. You can achieve a hell of a lot with a mediocre squad that plays well together.
I think one or two key signings; a midfielder, a CB and maybe a winger would see us staying out of a relegation scrap easy enough.

So when you are promoted back to the Premiership you won't be a true Premiership team until you've survived a season?I wouldn't consider us or Villa true Championship teams; in my eyes it is a team that have been in that league for more than one season. Completely agree regarding strengthening the squad, but the team we have now is 90% made up of proven premiership players. They may not be good enough for a top 6 team, but nearly all of them could get into a premiership team. Maybe not starting eleven, but rotation definitely.

Your first paragraph could have turned into a classic. You went from proven Premier players to, well not top 6,well some could get in a team, well not starting eleven. If you hadn't stopped you would have ended up well the odd one could play in the Northern Premier League Assuming we are successful at promotion at the end of this season, I'm not massively concerned with buying a load of new players. On a separate, and hugely amusing note, did everyone see the spuds went out of the CL tonight and that the world beater was only allowed on for 15 minutes at the end?
Lazy, incompetent, egotistical git in not as good as his own ego shocker. Couldn't be more happy.

I did seem to back pedal there a little; I probably should have just left it at the fact that 90% of our squad could play in a Premiership team.
Of course, that is based on current form; which I suppose is bias as they are playing weaker opposition.

I've got nothing against Newcastle. It's him I dislike. So I want him to fail.
Any particular reason?Ignoring the fact he manages Newcastle (which makes me biase); he seems like a genuinely nice bloke. He has been in the Chronicle plenty, visiting fans, exploring the city, talking about the passion from the fans, taking a real interest in the clubs history, steering the club back onto a path that aligns with the fans etc. I've yet to see or hear anything negative about him.
As far as his managerial ability goes; he has managed at the highest level and done it to a pretty successful standard. He opted to stay at a relegated club and attempt a ground up rebuild instead of jumping ship and taking the reigns at a stable, established club, he obviously cares deeply about the game and has an interesting scientific/technical view of football.
So unless I'm missing something....?
He and his wife are still involved in many charitable causes in Liverpool. In fact his wife has never moved away from the area since he became LFC's manager despite Rafa having jobs elsewhere. And he gave £96K to the Hillsborough families trust.
Ironic a Chelsea fan commenting on the character of a manager after they employed the charming Jose Mourihno. Not once but twice!

As for Benitez, for me, there is just something about him that I can't put my finger on.

Given the hell you lot have put managers thru in the past, (I seem to recall one of your many failing managers having his wife spat at in the street, not once but several times), the real irony is in any Newcastle fan standing in judgement about any other fans and their dislike of a manager.TwigtheWonderkid said:

A man has an argument with his wife and you see that as a reflection of how a club treats its manager? If you are going to deflect at least try do so in a way that strengthens your argument rather than makes you look pedantic.

fair play to you, you took my comment exactly how it was meant just as a bit of ribbing and not a reflection of any of your players, unlike Mr Ellroy

I've been a Newcastle fan long enough to know how to take a joke; we're not exactly a normal football club and we tend to make a rod for our own back As for Benitez, for me, there is just something about him that I can't put my finger on.
I'm surprised about Benitez, but given some of the 'characters' or 'inept' managers we've had over the years, Benitez seems like a breath of fresh air.
