From the sounds of things Newcastle are looking to get some pretty high fees for a club that must be in a situation where they need to off load players and take what they can get right?

Well that was a touch disappointing, seemed to lack a bit of creativity and cutting edge which is surprising given the pre-season results.

Robbed of a clear penalty and possibly another in the second half, it doesn't change the fact that we didn't do enough in the game but you really do have to have a bit of luck occasionally and we still seem to be all out of it.

Armchair Fulham fan here (don't worry I talk to myself in the Fulham thread). Newcastle will likely win the league this year and get back up. A tight loss in your opening game I think will be a valuable reality check but will change the mentality for the better.

Enjoy.

I've got a bet with a mate. He says you lot will romp the league, and I say you have the worst manager in all 4 divisions and he'll be gone by Xmas. I'm off to a good start!

I'm not entirely convinced Benitez would stick around if an offer came from either a Premier League team or one of the bigger clubs in Europe; however, notwithstanding the result last night, I still think Newcastle will be the team to beat in the Championship. Losing at Fulham may just give them a bit of a wake-up call and remove any complacency but I'll be amazed if they don't occupy one of the automatic promotion spots come the end of the season (and quite likely the top spot).

Nope, as managers go he's the emperor's new clothes. It's all an illusion. But time will tell.

whistle

0 points out of 6. And neither Fulham nor Huddersfield will get anywhere near the play offs. I'm telling you guys, he's a fraud. Terrible manager. You need to cut your losses now. The longer you leave it, the bigger job the replacement will have to avoid the drop to League 1.

Never mind Rafa.

At what point will some of the players stick their hand up and take some responsibility? That's the issue plain and simple.

Gayle is doing the business. 3-1; let this be the start of something.

Scoreline was very flattering; but incredible free kick from Gayle biggrin

I'm not getting excited yet. I'd like to see us string a run of wins together before I start believing we have a chance of securing promotion. Likewise, I'm not too concerned that we lost our first two games. We've pretty much got a new team and I think Rafa will need some time to find the right set up.

Your mob will be fine, a few crap results to start with but I think the momentum will build. Whether that'll lead to automatic promotion or not obviously remains to be seen but I don't believe for a second that the club won't be in contention for it.
