a) Totally agree and b) Also agree - in modern times that is. How Upson gets in the team is as equally mystifying to most West Ham fans as how Scott Parker never does. As for Carlton Cole, I'd play Bent in preference any time. I happen to think Green is a good keeper, certainly better than Foster and a few others but going forward Joe hart is clearly the man. Going back in time, I think Cottee, Devonshire, Brooking et al all deserved their places but even then it was case of if your face fitted e.g. how did Billy Bonds, widely acknowledged as one of the all time great Hammers never get a single England cap and yet Frank Lampard got a few. Bizaar...
Yep

And frankly how an England team wasn't built around Hoddle more than makes up for some not-so-deserving spuds being picked. The manager of Brazil (at the time) said he was dumbfounded as had he been Brazilian he's sure he'd have got at least 100 caps and been first on the teamsheet.

So when saying some spurs/west ham dross has been picked for England over the years this has to be tempered by the fact that some great players at the time haven't.

Is that why Hoddle went against the consensus of the whole country as a manager, and failed to play Le Tiss?
I beg to differ on "the consensus of the whole country". He was blowing VERY hot but also VERY cold at the time.

Who...me or Hod?

If Hod - I doubt he'd cut off his nose to spite his face...

If Hod had thougt Le Tiss would bring him glory...

What do you propose, we play the same team every game, no youth, no experimenting with tactics, just the same players, gerrard, lampard etc until they retire...then what...

Some people need to engage their brains once in a while....
Agreed.

IM normally posts sense too *snigger*

wink
Yeah IM you big goof, i rely on you as my footballing oracle. What am i going to do now?
Stay calm and carry on.

Lets wait until tonight to see what this "Jordy" does eh? (A mackem called geordie...hehe... I'll bet that sticks in the craw).

...and as for Football outside of London...Pah, I've never heard such nonsense!

Some people need to.....

Crouch should always be Plan-B.

Plan-A entails trying to win the game by playing through midfield. Against Spain, Brazil etc at (say) 2-0 down in the World Cup when you are never going to be able to play through midfield he is your 'other option' - albeit a desperate one.

Not losing to the Dutch because of the riots is one of the positives to have came from the trouble in August.
Yep - by default we held the world's No.1 team to draw in their own backyard - thats got to be good enough to nick us top spot in the next rankings hehe

Perhaps we've cut a deal with them - they get to keep the ball in the first half and then we're allowed 5 minutes with it in the second half...

I can't believe we're winning this, its a travesty really.

Comprehensively outplayed in every area of the pitch, technically light-years behind employing neanderthal tactics...and yet winning with 10 minutes to go!

Is this what its like to be a Liverpool fan? biggrin
