Tribalism. bks.

He got the ball, simple as that.

If the roles were reversed I'd say the same.

It's acting like pussies I can't stand.
Rubbish. Sterling flew in stupidly. Let's not forget Valencia has been on the receiving end of a broken leg so I can completley see why he reacted the way he did. It was a stupid tackle.

honest..yes
reckless at this level...yes
will he be sent off in the tournament. ..yes

Sterling at fault. He'll learn.

England have suffered several times going down to 10 in finals in 1998 2002 and 2006. These are supposed to be professionals not pub league brawlers.

Valencia would've been sent off in the old 4th division in the 80s for his two retaliations.

Rooney is still poor and still should not be in the first 11

Is it just me, or is Wilshere terrible on the ball when being challenged? He's been pushed off the ball lots tonight
No different to what happens when he plays for his club. He usually spends more time face down on the grass at the Emirates than on his feet.

According to Ian Wright Rooney will be brimming with confidence after his tap in off the post a couple of yards from the goal.

It can only be good for England.
What? My granny could have scored that goal.
Exactly. hehe
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lambert's miss that lead to the goal. hehe 4m seems a lot. wink

It was just an incredible assist. Liverpool players can do no wrong. smile

Cue the army of gooners defending their "talisman"

Nope. It's true, he needs to man the fk up. Goes down far to easily and is a gripe for every gooner I know. Never used to be like that in his early days.

May have something to do with the injuries he's had.

So...we know the Roy is hardly adventurous with his selections. What are we thinking for game 1?

Hart

Johnson - Cahill - Jag - Baines

Gerrard

Milner - Wilshere - Henderson - Welbeck

Sturridge

If it was me I'd go

Hart

Johnson - Cahill - Jag - Baines

Gerrard - Henderson

Sterling - Barkley - Lalana

Sturridge
The above was my team if I was picking it...but if fit I'd swap The Ox for Sterling...if not as above.

FFS what's rubbish?

He went in fully committed, he got the ball, then got the man. I've done it myself and been on the receiving end of it a thousand times.

Valencia going for Sterlings throat twice is fking cowardly.

You ever punched someone in the throat? Its probably the most vulnerable part of the body. Very easily badly damaged.

I actually thought Sterling showed great maturity in not reacting in face of such provocation.

No doubt you'll disagree but I'm not arguing about it anymore.

More negatives than positives tonight, I'm afraid.

Negatives...

Milner was awful. I was hoping he'd be a viable alternative to the car crash that is Glen Johnson but Johnson's now a shoe-in for the Italy game unless Roy goes for the untried Flanagan.

Wilshere's frailty exposed again. His poor decision making in lunging into tackles continues and as Scholes said recently, he doesn't seem to be maturing (or learning) into the player he should be. Lost his rag in the scuffle following the Sterling / Valencia scuffle and is a card waiting to happen in most games.

Rooney - I really wouldn't pick him for the Italy game. Yes, he scored but that in itself isn't worth celebrating at all, it was a tap in from half a yard. Anyone who still considers him world class is way off, IMO.

Sterling - poor challenge to make with ten minutes to go, no need to do it. Roy might have been considering starting him v Italy but tonight's petulance has cost him any hope of that, I reckon.

Foster - good job we've got Hart.

Jones - poor.

Smalling - stealing a living as a Premier League footballer, let alone an England one.

Positives...

Barkley and the Ox looked really good going forward; powerful, penetrating, decisive running, just what we need.

Lambert - has come so far in five years and he really is living the dream. Took his goal brilliantly and grabbed an assist too. Impressed with him and he'll be a great signing for Liverpool next season.

That'll do for now.
Agree with all that for the most part but Flanagan isn't in the final 23-man squad so Johnson it is ... Unless he plays Smalling? He can't be any worse than he was at centre back ...

Not really seen much of Shaw but he looked *okay* but £25m ... really? I suppose that is mostly to do with hs age.

I would start Barkley and Llama if we can but do not Wheelchair ... his legs are too short and he's not as good as he thinks he is ...

Roy Hodgson has said in the media conference that the Ox will have a scan on his knee and he has suspected "ligament damage". If so, his WC could be over before its begun.. sad news for the guy.

Moving on, my XI for Italy would be....

Hart
Johnson Cahill Jagielka Baines
Gerrard Henderson
Barkley Rooney Lallana
Sturridge

I think.

It can be a double negative, he could just as easily get injured trying not to get injured

He looked like he hadn't got a clue why Valencia was going mental, which sort of sums up the incident really. Mountains out of molehills.

That's how I read it, wide eyed surprise at the reaction from Valencia.

Valencia reacted the way he did because he could have picked up a serious injury and jeopardise his World Cup. I would have gone apest too.

Either that or he thinks Sterling looks a tt with that hairdo.
