To be safe, we should ban all Liverpool and United players from the tournament.
Works for me. I’d hate to see any United players getting injured competing for the BlatterBung Cup. Much rather have them save their energy for the fourth place fight in the EPL.

The World Cup (correction FIFA World Cup) is a sh!t fest. The best thing that could happen to football would be to close FIFA and its corrupt Sh!tfest down.
Summer is for cricket and pimms not an orgy of cheating ballerinas falling over abroad whilst competing for a bauble handed out by a bunch of self serving arab bungmasters.

Was Rooney wearing a syrup? Or has he had a hair transplant and tint? It's a while since I've seen him and it was a bit of a shock.

I'd say we were pretty lucky, Ecuador are a great team and one of the dark horses for the World Cup.

Not that I got them in the work sweepstake or anything......

Saw the highlights and I can understand why he went nuts. Yes Sterling didn't mean to do it, and did slightly get the ball first, it was reckless and could have done some damage. Valencia was OTT in his reaction, should have been less throat grabbing more handbags.

Issue is in the World Cup that could be a sending off which us not what we want.

If we played that back four against Italy, Joe Hart would need a machine gun.

Dunno, but Star Man had to be between the Ox and maybe Barkley....? Probably the Ox I think.

I'd love to know just what match they were watching! because the game I watched, showed that he Lacked pace, vision, 1st touch, awareness, he just totally lacked!!!

Lampard, Smalling and Johnson should be on the plane home now, i'd play Stones as right back.....

I suggested an 'Escape To Victory' style arm break for Johnson to a friend; then bring in Stones.

Stones would get roasted at right back. He was shocking when he played for Everton in that position. He is a centre back by trade and chucking him into the team at right back would be suicide. I know Johnson is poor but he is our only option.

That still makes it look a hell of a lot worse than it was. Sterling lunged in, but his left foot made contact with the upper half of the ball. So it look (from the still) like he went over the ball.

It was a rash (inexperienced forward's) challenge which should get him a yellow card.
Valencia was so badly hurt by the challenge he was able to leap up immediately to retaliate (the fact he had 3 subs for back up / rabble rousing had nothing to do with his bravery against the diminutative Sterling.

As someone else said, his reaction deserves further investigation and punishment.

The referee was heavily influenced by the reaction and gave both players reds. This seemed odd as he'd been mostly anonymous for the rest of the game. Not in a "letting the game flow" kind of way, but just not making any decision at all.

A few seconds before this incident Valencia had been tackled (not sure who by) and left his foot in, could have been nasty. Then there's the Oxlade-Chamberlain incident. His injury was not a result of the tackle but the histrionics (retaliation?) by the Ecaudor player which also went unpunished.

Poor show by the referee, and poor show by Valencia.

Interesting comments from Woy claiming the media are now obsessed by Ross Barkley and the fact he highlighted the things he didn't do right.

A touch of the Bobby on Gascoigne tactic? A canny move by a shrewd operator?

He then went on to praise the performances of Wilshere and Jones....
