It gets better... Birmingham keeper Jack Butland is among the list of five standby players, which also includes Manchester City winger Adam Johnson, Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge, Everton defender Phil Jagielka and Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson. Adam Johnson on standby but Downing gets a game staggering. Jordan Henderson on standby. Has Hodgson let Dalglish pick the team?

No Lennon or Richards, Downing's in, as is Milner, at least no Zamora. Don't really know what to make of it to be honest. I'd have gone for 5 strikers with Rooney missing first 2 games.
Pleased to see John Ruddy called up.
Hey ho, good luck fella's, I think we will need it...

What happened to picking players on form, how can he pick Downing, he'd be a poor player in a pub side.

Lennon is one of England's most exciting players, makes no sense not to take him. He's the perfect player to throw on in the last 20 minutes and make something happen - at the very least get people sent off

Goalkeepers - Joe Hart, Robert Green, John Ruddy.
Defenders - Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Joleon Lescott, John Terry.
Midfielders - Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young.
Strikers - Andy Carroll, Jermian Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck.
Isn't Parker injured?
I now understand why Liverpool fans wanted Dalglish.

I'm surprised.....Michael Carrick has been decent for Man Utd this season, yet Jordan Hendenson makes it onto the standby list. WTF!

The problem is, no one is ever going to be happy with an England squad, everyone has players they would prefer in a certain position so everyone will argue that he is wrong. It's how he galvanises those players in to a working group that will define our success in a tournament. Picking on form is a good idea, but how will that be carried in to a tournament, with players from different clubs? My opinion is that premier league club form has little to do with tournament success.

looks like 4-5-1 to me....
crowd the midfield, keep the ball rely on gerrard / lampard making those forward runs, walcott to provide the pace...
4-5-1 means you can play the holding midfielder - barry who has been excellent gets the nod.
4-5-1 means you can play young and walcott I reckon.....not sure what plan A is...long ball up to carroll, feed off second ball? he is very diff to the other strikers who like to run onto the ball - diff system entirely...
ho-hum
