Glad Defoe is going - he's pretty reliable upfront for England from memory ... Carroll though - gawd help us!
What has Crouch done wrong not to get the nod?
Can't we junk Stewart Downing and take another striker?
WTF is he in the squad ???

Steameh said: You could level the same critisim at Lennon.
The problem is, no one is ever going to be happy with an England squad, everyone has players they would prefer in a certain position so everyone will argue that he is wrong. It's how he galvanises those players in to a working group that will define our success in a tournament.
Picking on form is a good idea, but how will that be carried in to a tournament, with players from different clubs? My opinion is that premier league club form has little to do with tournament success. Not really, as he usually beats his man. I agree on the Prem->National thing, but Lennon has performed very well when asked for England - but then inexplicably dropped. Can't say that for everyone else in that squad. They have performed consistently badly for about 6 years, but they are still there.

What has Crouch done wrong not to get the nod? Carroll and Welbeck are presumably part of the squad that has been picked with an eye on the next four years - Crouch is 31 so reverting to him would not be a forward looking move. Obviously having said that most of the midfield is also not forward looking in any way. Parker might not even be fit which would presumably mean Henderson going.

There's got to be a reason for Downing to be going we don't know about. Is he the team fluffer? Does he give the best back, sack & crack? Does he tell great bed time stories?
It can't be for football reasons

Carroll Downing Milner And probably Lampard (just not a fan.) At least he's packing the OX but I'll be willing to bet he never sees the pitch. Should've taken Crouch. He obviously enjoys playing for his country and usually links up very well with Defoe. Still look on the brightside, Roy will be gone in five games.

carrick not blessed with great pace although he can tackle and keep the ball and is a decent distributor...
pretty much everythng henderson isn't...
time for one or two to fall down some stairs yet though...
Micah must be thinking he is very unlucky yo get overlooked in favour of glen johnson. mark my words. defensive liability at international level.

My honest feeling is Carroll will do well in this tournament.
Not sure on why Downing ahead of Lennon though.

carroll might have that "not seen before" quality. might turn into neer seen again.
but he'll put the effort in for sure and in tourney football its about peaking at the right time.
captian? crucial....Parker for me.

Once again relying on the so called 'old guard' to scrape us out of the group stages..!!! Might as well just had Capello pick the team.
How Downing is in the squad with no goals and no abilty to do anything with the ball, and Richards gets left out for Johnson???
So glad we have the Olympics to get excited about!!!

The way I see it is Hodgson has deliberately picked a squad so random that no one will talk about John f king Terry being in. Looks like it worked.....
