Henderson? Did I miss something? I think even the most one-eyed Liverpool fan will admit he's f king awful?

He's not in the squad, but if someone gets injured he might get the chance to see what it's all about. He won't play in the Euro's but maybe the FA see him as one for the future? I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Goalkeepers: Rui Patricio (Sporting), Eduardo (Benfica), Beto (Cluj)
Defenders: Joao Pereira (Sporting), Bruno Alves (Zenit St Petersburg), Fabio Coentrao (Real Madrid), Pepe (Real Madrid), Ricardo Costa (Valencia), Rolando (Porto), Miguel Lopes (Braga)
Midfielders: Carlos Martins (Granada), Joao Moutinho (Porto), Miguel Veloso (Genoa), Raul Meireles (Chelsea), Ruben Micael (Zaragoza), Custodio (Braga)
Strikers: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Hugo Almeida (Besiktas), Helder Postiga (Zaragoza), Nani (Manchester United), Nelson Oliveira (Benfica), Ricardo Quaresma (Besiktas), Silvestre Varela (Porto)
Portugal have 7 strikers! Although I'd say Nani was more of a midfielder. No prizes for guessing what formation they're going to be playing...

If we come second in our group, we'll almost certainly be playing Spain in the next round. Looks like a must win group!

I had high hopes that Hodgson would make a good job of this, but f k me, what a s t squad! Glen Johnson? Better than Micah Richards? Appreciate that Ferdinand can't play every game, so he's a fair omission and keeps fergie on side. No Carrick? He's had a great season, makes Man U tick. Crouch? As a Newcastle fan, I actually appreciate Carroll - you just have to play him properly rather than the position and attempts to play the ball to his feet that dalglish does. But crouch has had his day and offers nothing that carroll doesn't.

Why is it that most people on here moan about the inclusion of Downing and Milner yet RH selects them without a problem, what does he know about them that we don't? Does he see them play well, week in week out???? Milner hasn't kicked a ball and Downing is just so s t it's unreal, I had high hopes (as usual) for this tournament, now it's back to the old same ole England rubbish. Holt should have been in the squad as should Joey Barton

I believe that Hodgson has taken this squad as far as he can and should be sacked.

Righto, now it's had time to settle in, I've decided it's not as bad as most are making out.
Whilst I strongly disagree with some of the selections ( G.Johnson, Barry, Downing, Milner and Henderson being on standby), it doesn't mean Hodgson is a bad manager.
I like Hodgson. He is knows his stuff and you never know, he could get the best out the aforementioned 'dodgy selections'.
But as others have mentioned. It does make you wonder what he looks for. G.Johnson over Richards this season?? Downing over any Englishman to ever kick a football?? Being a Norwich fan I'm a touch biased, but what more could Grant Holt have done (other than play for Liverpool by the looks of the squad) Andy Carroll has 60 odd minutes of good football at the end of the season and he's in?
As normal, we will probably go out with a whimper after the group stage but until then, I shall go on with blind optimism!
