Hart
Walker - Terry - Rio - Cole
Lennon - Carrick - Parker - Young
Gerrard - Rooney
Is not a bad team.
OK you have injures/suspensions to Walker and Rooney... but otherwise that team is easily achievable.

OK you have injures/suspensions to Walker and Rooney... but otherwise that team is easily achievable. i think Roy believes Gerrard plays better facing.the opponents and moving forward playing as a support striker, at international level, he ends up facing his own team and becomes less effective. Without the ball we struggle, players like Rooney and Gerrard when playing upfront both have the tendancey to drop back in midfield.seeking the ball through frustration. We then lose our shape. Roys team ain't pretty but it may be effective.... ...but unfortunately, I doubt it, England will probably Chase shadows after the balllike they have done in everysingle tournament from 98. We simply cannot hold the ball with any confidence. I'll cheer them on though. Except Terry.

Personally I wouldn't have Gerrard anywhere near the England squad - he's not effectual at all in any position any more. He stands out at Liverpool still because they are quite simply s t. I'd actually play Darren Bent up front with Rooney. He's the only striker we have that plays "like Lineker" (note the quotes, I am not comparing Bent to Lineker!) - i.e. he stays up front, he makes runs all day, and he's not pretty but he invariably is always in the right place at the right time.

Agree with the Bent up front with Rooney. As for the Gerrard quote, you're playing with fire.

You have to question the logic of these friendliest so close the start of the tournament. We've now lost Cahill as well!

Martin Kelly called up as replacement. f k me is Roy still trying to appease the scousers by calling up all their dross. Why isn't Micah Richards going? Bonkers.

There must be something between that awful person John Terry & Rio Ferdinand , Ferdinand, Richards , Carrick & Lennon all overlooked , I quite like Roy but some of his selections are baffling at times ,
