The more I watch that Franco play, the more impressed I am by him. I hope that once Cole is fit we can use them well together and keep Diamanti as more of an impact player. Diamanti is good, but how many fking times did he fall over yesteday??! He seemed a lot livelier during the first half than the second IMHO.

It wasn't a penalty either, I could see it well from where I was sat. But I'd take a point against Chelsea and then beat Pompey on Boxing Day rather than 3 yesterday and lose on Boxing Day.

Oh, and whoever said about Lampard being on their shirt, I've just gone and pulled all my old ones out. Ferdinand, Carrick, Cole and Lampard are on four of my shirts from my youth hehe

I know we lost to the yids again, but I can actually take a positive from this result. I thought we battled hard and, had Cole been playing, I think the result would have been different. lets just hope these potential new yankee owners have deep fking pockets biggrin

I'm tired of saying it, but lets buy Eidur Gudjohnsen! Proven Premiership quality, I reckon he'd make a big difference and his experience could rub off nicely on the younger lads.

I'd like Eidur too. Great player.

Rumours are we've lodged a £1.2mil bid for Benni McCarthy. He scores a few goals and at that price you can't really argue.

Should be an interesting window for us. Not a huge amount to spend and we need impact players to rebalance the sqaud.
Weren't we after him before we got Ashton - goes back a few years. Watched him play briefly last night. He needs games for the World Cup, imagine he'd be looking for some sort of first team football guarantee.

Agree re Eidur. Reckon that'd be a great signing, if only for the rest of the season. How old is he though? Galatasaray seem to be spashing the cash, if he's spent the last few years in sunny Barcelona will he fancy a relegation tussle in E London rather than "retirement" in Turkey. Hopefully fire still burns & our intentions will appeal to him.

Doubt that David's will be prepared to pay big wages though so probably looking at Championship level strikers. Still, if Nani's gone (not sure) it'll avoid another lower league Italian who'll take too long to settle.
Showing my (young) age now, but I'm pretty sure we tried to sign McCarthy about 6 seasons ago and he went somewhere like Porto or Benfica instead? £1.2m isn't much for a proven goalscorer and, as mentioned, he needs games and goals under his belt for SA.

Just got in, what a relief! We're nowhere near safe but saying that, apart from Pompey, it's take your pick from Sunderland downwards who else is going down. I knew driving to the match in the new motor was going to help turn things around for the team biggrin

ETA - my mate just confirmed that we've got tickets for the away day at Manure, think I'll drive to that one too!

I have been so busy at work recently I haven't had time for much online activity. But let me signal my return by saying that last night was a joke. In all fairness to Wolves they are well organised at the back, but when you compare the team sheets this should not have happened. I am currently too tired to launch into a rant, but I was appalled by last night. I think Championship is becoming more than likely for next season. /annoyed

Christ, I really don't wanna have to go to Bermondsey next season. At least Burnley did us a favour and lost. I never wish injury on players, but I am truly gutted that Bullard seems to be back and in form for Hull...

Edit - I have just seen that Zola has given the players three days to rest in preperation for the Everton match?! In my opinion, they should be having 5 days of bloody intensive training til Friday, light training Saturday and then perhaps try turning up with the belief we could win on Sunday.

could work either way - "Right guys you've had 3 days off, now go and perform like you're playing for your place in the world-cup squad or G&S threat to cut your salary by 25% will look well justified."
I sort of agree with you, but that isn't management really. Zola and Clarke are supposed to be coaches. Three days of playing Xbox Live or golf is hardly going to focus the players' minds for the (massive) task of taking on Everton. Although, Zola and Clarke are the paid professionals, so what do us mere mortals know?

Oh the humanity!
Cue an interview where he trys talking Cockney to a journalist
hehe

To be fair I'd hope we won't be able to afford his wages, I'd imagine he'll be after a fairly hefty basic.

Scott Parker is going to be a big miss today. He is a great player, but 10 bookings in 32 matches is very poor and shows a total lack of discipline IMHO!

Your not serious are you, I take it you know what role he plays? And if he'd got through the Everton game they would have all been erased.(and that was a good tackle he got booked for )
The same role I do for my team at the moment smile

I personally think he is far too rash at times, hence why he has been booked 10 times this season. Some people think it shows he is a committed player, I think it shows his lack of discipline.

I wasn't aware that they would have been chalked off if he had got through that game, but he didn't so he is banned. Luckily Noble played out of his skin from what I saw of the match so one more game and then we can put this ban nonsense behind us and carry on with staying in the Prem.

Thats a touch harsh, BBM. Doing what he does in midfield bookings are inevitable under the current rules. He commits to tackles at full tilt often sliding in ~ getting there late or high comes with the territory. He`s been our best player this season by some distance.

Anyway who are you Claude Makelele? smile
Pffft, he wishes!

In fairness, I think you have summed my own point up for me but everyone takes different views on things.

There are plenty of other central midfielders such as Fat Frank who have managed to adjust their game to not get booked once every three times they play.

In all fairness though he is probably our best player and I would be gutted if we lost him this summer, so maybe I should stop being such a whinging git about it and thank him for being so committed to what, at times, has been a limp wristed, unimaginative, couldn't-give-a-toss-less-about-it-team this season.

Putting himself in shop window for 2010/11 with whoever comes along. He was never a longterm prospect & if "losing control" results in a win & a fighting draw I'm happy for that too continue. Fair play to Ilan though; been given a chance & scored two vital goals.

Of course it'll probably be retracted tomorrow & blamed on "miss quoting" in a foreign paper.
Although it's not always in English, I don't think we can quite call the Nudes of the World a foreign paper wink

Even though Lampard has played a more defensive role at times this season, his role would still result in far less oppurtunities to get booked than Parkers.
True, I'd retract my original comment but, as it has been quoted, it'd still be there for all to see!

So you agree with him? Anyway 4 more points and it's a mid table finish hehe I agree nothing to celebrate.
fk it, we survived, that was excuse enough for a few bevvies last night drunk

Thank God we did stay up and don't face the potential prospect of going to Bermondsey next season!

So we are complaining about Fulham fielding a "weak" team against the mighty Hull. Just what do the twunts imagine the Premier League will do? Have we no dignity left? Are we not enough of a laughing stock already? FFS

Lets hope no-one complains about us fielding a weak team. We`d be fked.
And this is the irony, Zola fielded a weakened team (if that's possible) for our last 2 aways, to save our strongest 11 for the Wolves game!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blimey, I`d forgotten about that. Just makes it worse. Bunch of comedians.
Wonder if we'll put in a complaint if we play a weakened Fulham 11 days before their Europa league final!
BrabusMog,apologising becasue he'll look a a bit of a tt if the above happens maybe?

Guess that he's looking to do a Curb's & then sue.
That's very hard on Curbs, walked out on principal on the basis of players being sold behind his back.
Think you're right there, Curbishley had no choice but to go. I am conflicted in my thoughts, all the signs point to Zola being totally inept at what he does, but his playing record and "nice guy" persona mean everyone, myself included, seems to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I think it is probably time for him to move on, lets just hope we don't have to dump a load of cash on him.
