Just caught a glimpse of Payet's stunning free kick winner v Cameroon tonight.
I'll stick my neck out and say he's the best set piece specialist I have ever seen. I now expect him to score every time, regardless of angle, distance and the wall/keeper. Tonight's was on the wrong side for a right footer and he put in the top corner on the left hand side.
Unbelievable stuff.

Yeah, wasn't bad I suppose. Could have gone a bit more top corner though

Yeah he signed a 5 year contract in Feb this year on about £120k a week.
Hopefully that will fend off the chancers but I doubt it would do a lot to see off a booming offer from, say, PSG or Real. Clearly the man is in the very top category of players and, from the way he has conducted himself at WH, is also a class act off the field as well.
His emotional reaction last night, IMO, showed how much he desperately wanted to show he can cut it in the cauldron of a major international tournament on home soil. He left himself, and the world, in no doubt that he can.
I'd love to see him stay at WH but after last night I fear the odds on that have lengthened significantly. Whatever happens, good luck to him.
I'm one of the most optimistic Hammers, Rich, but if Man Utd can't hold on to players wanted by Real/Barca etc, I doubt we've got much chance.
In a couple of years (if we actually keep building on this year) then we might be able to attract known top tier players but right now we will still be behind the established big boys - luckily we seem to have a good scouting network, so we may find a few more Payet's.

Makes you wonder how much better half our footballers could be if the could be arsed to practise with their wrong foot.
Odd thing with Payet, last season he didn't score a single free-kick, and wasn't particularly highly thought of at all,in the same vein that Cantona and Ginola weren't in France until they played here.
