James Collins has been linked to Stoke in a £5m move. Where has that come from?!

Oh, right, The Sun. Never mind then. As you were...

PS When the fking hell is Dean Ashton gonna actually play?
Have heard that he isn't even training yet but that could of course be utter nonsense (although it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest)
At the moment I'd be surprised if he turns out for us again. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong though.
I'm not too keen on Ashton, wouldn't mind seeing him leave if we get Gudjohnsen in to replace him. Cracker from Noble on Saturday, more of that this season please biggrin

Also a bit worrying that Upson admitted he may have to be sold!
It wouldn`t surprise me if Zola is forced to sell players like Upson, he`ll do a Curbishley, and Clarke would go with him. They won`t find a new club hard to come by. Bit worrying TBH.

Zola quoted today as not having to sell anyone... heard that before!

Hopefully city will bag lescot which will take pressure off Upson moving.

If selling Collins means we've not got to sell Upson or anyone else & gives us cash for a new striker then I'll back that one.

I've a lot of time for Ginge, but Upson & Tomkins will be first choice this season with cover from Gabbs & Davenport (if he can be worked back in) - Collins decent but makes too many mistakes & 5M is too much to turn down - we need the cash for a striker urgently.

Maybe a twin deal with Deano & Ginge to Stoke, frees up cash for the French striker (can't remember his name) that we've bidded for or (hopefully) wages for a couple of days for Gudjohnson / Toni.

Anyone see Boa Morte's comments - reckon's he'll be out all season.

Exactly my point, if a senior player does go Zola will say he`s been shafted from above and walk. Bluebottle situation revisited. Aug 31 can`t get here quick enough.

Collins linked to Stoke again today in a £5m deal. More interestingly, Davenport is rumoured to be on the verge of a £1.5m move to Notts Forest. I would prefer this option. It's less money but I really rate Collins, and also if we're down to only four central defenders that reduces the chance of letting Upson go.

Unless this is all a ploy an he's about to go to City... frown

Also reported that we're now in for £7M for Chamakh so guess that we'll need the money for Ginge asap.

Outside the championship Davenport never really cut it, looked good at that level but not a premiership player for me.

I'd much rather land Gudjohnsen than Chamakh, need some proven Premiership class up front IMHO.

Correct on Davenport, he's never made the step up.

As much as i like ginger, 5mill a good sum. If that goes in combination to the 4/5 million we had turned down for Chamakh im happy.

Tompkins one day will be one of the best CB's in the league, IMHO i think hes that good. Upson and him in CB and then 5mill in the bank for a striker, jobs a gooden and the team and board push on with the fact were strengthening the team.....

We need a striker, we have a solid back bone and midfield, CC and Frank Nouble arent enought to keep us mid table, Ashton will either sit in the in the medical room or will be sold, i hate to think of the money we are paying him.

All i want to see is a striker come in.

What sort of top level striker does £5m get you? Either an unproven youngster or a thirty something in decline. Someone needs to kick Ashton hard up the arse and keep kicking till he`s fit. WTF has happened to him? 2006 he was THE MAN. Quick, silky skills with both feet, vision and most importantly goals. FFS get the malingering git back on the pitch.

Rumour is he has ruined his cartilage in his ankle. People are saying his career is over and that WHU will make an announcement in the next few weeks.

5 - 8 mill will get a good striker, WHU wont get a top level striker but can attract the eye of good strikers like Chamakh.

I think we will never see Ashton play again, this is why we couldnt off load him to Stoke when they were sniffing round him as i recon we would have accepted anything for him

Argh, we have sold Ginge for £3.5m to Stoke! I cannot believe this, we should have gotten at least £5m. I knew Zola saying we weren't going to sell anyone wasn't true. Story here

The Mirror (i know the mirror) and metro have now said the deal has collapsed because Stoke wouldnt reach personal demands for the player.

Just an interesting bit here, did you know Colins has averaged only 16 games per season for us.
