I just hope this isn't the start of another Sunderland cycle of doom: Survive, new season, play ste, sack the manager, beat Newcastle (oh noes!), turn things around and just about survive!
Give me some mid table mediocrity, I fking beg you. I feel better about the idea of that cycle being broken now than I have in the past, Sam is no fool - but I'm sure we've all felt like a corner has been turned before too!
Just have to wait and see, I guess.
Hallelujah

I need to stop reading these articles, I love these, mine would be grey, however. Indeed the local Honda dealer called me on Friday to see if I was still interested as they had a grey GT in as a demo, available for purchase and sharpish delivery.
I was speaking to my missus about them around the time of the first PH fleet article and I joked about buying one if Sunderland managed to avoid relegation.
So it looks like I'm not getting my new car!
Car bought, picking it up on Thursday hopefully, a grey Type R GT with just shy of 400 miles on the clock, I was speaking to my missus about them around the time of the first PH fleet article and I joked about buying one if Sunderland managed to avoid relegation.

LAST DAY! The lads are still in the EPL too, it's a miracle! The Big Man was talking about playing a few of the younger lads to see how they get on, it should be an interesting game considering Watfords dire form of late - they dunted their manager too, hopefully we can end the season with a win, but I suppose it doesn't really matter now.
I just looked back over the last 5/6 pages of total despair and it appears my word of the year is/was: DOOMED

Good man, Dicky.A, always liked him, all the best for his retirement, the chap had good managerial pedigree and history - can't fault him at all.
Will Fat Sam fix the team? Can't say this far out, sure he has premier league pedigree but he's never taken a team "anywhere" - he gets results though, sort of.
Time will tell, West Brom then the derby - hopefully they can get a few in the onion bag for that one, it'll keep moral and hope up, if they do.
He took Bolton from mid table Championship crap into Europe and a solid Premier League team. I think you'd rip anyone's arms off if they were offering you that. He's done a good job at making every team he's managed since a solid mid-table Premier League team, again something you'd kill to have. Will Fat Sam fix the team? Fingers crossed
My "anywhere" statement was more in terms of big trophies etc which I'd never expect anyway rather than him not doing well in terms of building a decent foundation and getting the team playing right and such forth - he's done well in that, we had a few clangers along the way though but the difference in the team compared to the start of the season is night and day, we would have been sunk months ago without his input and frankly excellent January buys.
Less than a million quid for Kirkhoff from Bayern Munich for example...... that's a bargain, if he gets his fitness levels at 100% for the next season so he can do the full 90 minutes he will be even more impressive than he already is, Kone is great in defence too, Khazri has a good work rate and has played some blinding corners and free kicks, he is a great addition to the team, all three of them are.
Hopefully the Big Man gets his way in terms of transfers and squad fitness before the start of next season and the team return to the pitch with the same form they are leaving it with - one loss in ten, that's better form than Everton, Bournemouth, West Brom and Watford, probably several other clubs too. Some of the recent performances have looked very promising too (Stoke away was not, however) and the draw against Saints (1-1) was an absolute clanger of a result, conceding with 15 seconds left to play after some criminal man marking by O'Shea, the same at West Brom (0-0), I haven't seen the team have more attempts on goal in my life but their keeper played a total blinder, he even saved one of them with his face,
I know their usual crack is to escape relegation and then totally die on their arses at the start of the season and I have seen plenty of false dawns before, but I actually feel very positive about this one for a change, I pray I'm not wrong.
