I'd think so, he lost the dressing room, players hated him etc. Considering what a mess the team was in when Gus turned up, he really has done a marvellous job.
I'd like to thank Newcastle for the 6 points they gifted us this season too
Only in the last 5 games to be fair. some of the performances under him have been woeful and his team selections have been bewildering at times, but it is a miracle.I'd like to thank Newcastle for the 6 points they gifted us this season too
As any Sunderland fan knows we always snatch defeat from the jaws of victory but for once in my lifetime it's worked the other way.
To that dirty stinking mag who always comes on here and has a dig watch out next season because you'll be in the relegation dogfight
Wickham from the start of next season and a full pre-season under Gus. Dare I say I'm looking forward to next season?
I hope we stick with him, but I hear he's not at all convinced he should stay, he's not happy with a few things 'off pitch'. Keep him, let him manage the outs (there needs to be a few of those, would be interested what the opinion is) and the ins (ditto). On, and off pitch..
Some thought provokers;
Some thought provokers;
- Work hard to keep Colbeck
- Get Borini back - he'll be 4th choice where he came from
- Keep Larsson - there is great quality there, needs someone to consistently extract that (and he's a lovely bloke)
- Ditto Vergini
- Let Johnson go
- Fletcher & Scocco too
- KW to start, mostly
- Not sure whether Cats is a liability or (as he was last night) immense
- Centre backs too old, but we need them to stick around to 'mentor'
- Not convinced by Alonso
- Or Vito (I know, I know)
Obviously the cup run was good but it was coupled with some dross in the league. I think it's been a bizarre season even by our standards. By Sunday we could have finished 12th, been to the final of the Capital One Cup & been in the quarter final of the F.A. Cup and yet 3 weeks ago we were going down, without a doubt and the cup run would have been long forgotten.
Jury is out for me on Wickham, agreed needs a good pre season and a run in the first team.

A very close West Ham friend and I have an annual wager as to who will finish higher.
4 weeks back I nearly paid him, but he wouldn't take it, as it was then still a mathematical possibility that we could overtake them - hugely unlikely, but possible.
I very nearly paid him last Saturday ahead of the Man U game, as it was then still a mathematical possibility that we could overtake them - highly unlikely, but possible.
On Sunday, WHU play Man City away (City obviously wanting to win to secure the title), and we have the Swans at home. If we win and WHU lose, we finish above them, and I'll be a Monkey to the good.
Fingers, and everything else, crossed....

That's really good. I stifled a little tear.What a strange season that was, I'm still not entirely sure whether it was a success or a disaster. In hindsight, taking six points off our dear neighbours, getting to a cup final (I only managed to stand outside Wembley and not get in, but did travel there) and watching the Poyet miracle unfold has to go down as a good one. It's been a true rollercoaster ride. Lets hope we can build on this and achieve something great next season.

Which is what I was getting at on Thursday by far the most bizarre of seasons even by our standards. I'm only going back 33 years following the lads, so I stand to be corrected I really don't know what to make of it and where we are going to end up next season.Poyet signs an extended deal to 2016.... http://www.safc.com/news/club-news/2014/may/poyet-...
