Heard about the old firms game tonight, and am pretty shocked. It's games like that that put Scottish football to shame. frown
But I think we do need Celtic and Rangers in the league as it would fall apart if they were to move.

Just back from the St Johnstone - Aberdeen game, and got to say, the attendance was pretty shocking, despite it being a weekday night.
I'm an Aberdeen fan and made the journey down to Perth. The overall attendance was around 2,900. And about half of that being Aberdeen fans. Good turn out from us. And had it been a Saturday, Aberdeen were getting about 60% of the ground for their fans.

Attendances at these kind of games are terrible. frown
The reason the attendance was so low was because everyone was watching the old firm!

I don't know why anyone would consider buying Rangers until their tax investigation/final bill has been decided, apparently that's why the bank isn't letting the club spend any money, becuase they know that when HMRC come calling then their debt will take 2nd place in the queue.

Rangers are practically bankrupt, who'd buy that? They'd be taking on a huge amount of debt + a large tax bill.

Because he's Irish and the Celtic manager, its really very simple.

Especially for the SFA. Not that their chairman, and a few others besides, are bigotted towards the shame. No, not at all. Nothing to see here please move along.

By the way nothing ever happened in Manchester or Barcelona either. In fact Rangers and their 'fans' were never, ever, there.

Hope that makes it clear.

I dunno about that figure.

At least 30,000 of them were Chelsea fans in Ranger's tops. You know, the ones that were REALLY causing the trouble.

Are you being serious? I doubt if chelsea could muster 300 fans who would travel up to Manchester when their team are not playing!

It's not, but he doesn't do himself any favours. He certainly doesn't conduct himself like the manager of a huge football club with a worldwide fanbase should do when he is aware he is in the public eye, and that his actions have the potential to spread further, trouble outside the grounds etc.

He was persecuted by the NI support after suggesting that there should be a united Ireland team - you don't need to be particularly smart to know that statement is going to upset a lot of people, a perfect example of him not knowing when to shut up and concentrate on playing/managing.

I'm a Glasgwegian but I don't support Rangers or Celtic simply because of the bullst that surrounds the old firm that causes normal people I live and work around to turn into bigoted hate-filled nutters every couple of months.

There is such much that could be said on the issues raised over the pages of this thread and i am unfortunately no typist.
Money is the evil that is killing football but
is the only thing that could move the old firm south (ie sky)
The resultant injection of cash would make them serious contenders for any league in two or three seasons -I can never understand people who say they would fail in england, only excesive russian, arabic and dirty/borrowed US money would beat them.
Scottish football would THRIVE without them. Hibs were relegated a few years ago and their crowds were better in div 1 because they were playing to win something, not playing for third place. It doesn't take a huge increase on fortnightly gates to compensate for the loss of old firm revenues.
I'm a celtic fan but not from west central scotland. From my gleanings of the divide over the years the bigots are reducing in number, however and rather controversarily, i think the only way to end it is to put them in the same schools from the age of 5. Let them be friends, don't give them the stupidist of reasons for 'hating' one another.

utter rubbish, Rangers fans are by and large a horrible bunch of scum bags. Having shared a tube many a time with them as they screamed and yelled at anyone not going to Ibrox whilst bouncing the train like morons and singing about bobo balde peeling bananas with his feet and killing feenians I reckon I can judge them as I see them. I'm not a Celtic fan but at least they can generally behave themselves on tour.

I lived next to Ibrox for 3 years, rangers fans are either hateful bigots or glory hunters in denial about the cluns true nature. Maybe theres a few good eggs but theyre vastly outnumbered.

Hibs fan here.
The reason attebdances were up was because we were winning every week instead of getting stuffed. biggrin

Scottish football is unsustainable and has been for years.

Seriously, 4 professional leagues with a population only 10% of Englands means not enough paying fans to go round. Every club apart from Celtic and Rangers (well, even rangers recently) are 'selling clubs'. It's the only way they can balance the books.

Come on, you're not naive enough to think that there's only a scum element in the Rangers fanbase, and that Cetic fans are a bunch of loveable characters who go along to Parkhead every second Saturday and sing delightful Irish folks songs!

There's scum, bigotry and hatred in every football club support, it appears more prevalent In the Old Firm support in Scotland as they outnumber the other by far.

What really gets me is the Irish flag waving and pro-republican support from Celtic fans and the pro-loyalist support from Rangers fans, most of whom have no connection to Ireland or Northern Ireland whatsoever. Throwing them into the English league system where the two teams don't cross paths as often each season can only be a good thing in my opinion.

There would be only one thing holding Celtic back in England...

Building a big enough stadium to hold the huge support !

Completely agree, but a certain little red-haired genetic fault that has bigotry that knows no bounds has his problems to seek. Oh and not a footballist in any way, shape or form and proud of the fact.
