Good that Neil Adams has done the honourable thing and resigned. He should never have been appointed in the first place. I also hope that McNally will also post his resignation soon. He is doing nothing for this club and should take responsibility for Adams appointment.

No, I don't think so. What needed doing has happened anyway. To still be within touching distance of the play-offs having had a (at this level) totally novice manager in charge is not really a disaster. How many managers have conceded they were not up to the job after consecutive 5-0 and 6-1 home wins I wonder- fair play to Adams for walking, but once the initial optimism / team spirit had gone, he just didn't seem to have the drive to re-motivate the squad (... that and a lack of tactical nous / inexperience really didn't help).

What is crucial now is for the CEO and board to get the next appointment right. We absolutely have to go with someone with experience who can inspire and motivate what is undoubtedly one of the best squads in the division. Forums are suggesting we should raid Bournemouth or Bolton for Howe or Lennon, I'd like to think we are being aggressive enough to consider such options, however I think all NCFC fans secretly fear they will take the easy (and cheap rolleyes) option and appoint Phelan (a couple of good results as care-taker and this will inevitably happen).

Lambert showed what could be achieved by a decent man-manager, we just need to find someone in the same mould (easier said than done I know). Who knows, maybe the Arms Dealer down the road would appreciate a few million to let us have McCarthy..., after all his football business interests do seem to be in the red somewhat winkwinkwink.

And there's the problem, not many good people about which as you say you'll probably need to dislodge someone. But who would want to go to Norwich who you'd actually want? MM was available just at the right time for us and we struck gold. Are you likely to lose any players during the transfer window as well? Could impact any decision potential incomers may have. The key thing Norwich have got in their favour is the parachute money, don't know how much is still washing about?

PPs are £59m over 4 years (dropping from £23m to £9m/yr), which when our wage bill is (at a guess) c.£30m indicates we shouldn't have to sell but it also shows we can only afford to keep this squad together for the current season, hence the importance of an instant return.

A few of the players (e.g. Redmond, maybe Ruddy) may be of interest to others in the TW, but I do not think there is any pressure to sell. I'd like to think that money would be available for us to go after the right man for manager and possibly to give him funds to bring in a couple of players if it is needed to 'sweeten the deal'. As you say there is nobody out there currently available (other than Warnock or Sherwood eek) so 'head hunting' is going to be the only option. And as 'Mad Mick' has proven, it's not all about throwing cash about, it's about getting a group together that gels and then managing them correctly- the squad we currently have ought to be good enough.

All conjecture of course..., our club history indicates we should ready ourselves to be totally underwhelmed by the eventual appointment.

Ahh the anticipation of mediocrity- can't beat it. Sherwood and Warnock you want to avoid like the plague..

I've been watching Brentford a bit this season (most local club to me at the moment) and they've a cracking manager in Mark Warburton. Now Brentford have plans to build a new stadium etc and take that step where there's always risk (I sincerely hope it goes well as I'm fond of the club) but it's a few years off. He would make an interesting option, very positive and happy for his players to take risks/ make mistakes provided they learn from them.

Warburton is a good call, Brentford are a tidy side (but for Ruddy we would have been 3 or 4 down at HT at their place before they finally woke up in the 2nd half). Another popular name on NCFC forums is Derek McInnes up at Aberdeen who is taking the fight to Celtic in the SPL. Whether either would consider us a step up is another question...! The annoying thing is we could have had Lennon effectively on a 'free' back in the summer, he resigned (it is said by some in anticipation of getting the job) and within 24h we had appointed Adams (... after scouring Europe for the right man, yeah right rolleyes ).

Who are you realistically expecting to get?

We lucked in getting MM. After a few mediocre managers (and some downright poor ones) we've seemingly hit the jackpot.

I don't really know of anyone out there at the moment who'd do the job for you.

It seems that Adams was doing an okay job for you, however with the squad and money you've got, you should be top 2.

The danger signs were there when we played earlier in the season. I said that you were not playing well enough to go up despite beating us in a very poor game.

Luckily we've clicked and you don't seem to have discovered any consistency.

However, you can do us a favour by beating Bournemouth. Pretty please!?

We'll see what we can do! Many this end of the A140 would take a defeat (1- to not help 'you lot 'and 2- to steer the board away from the Phelan option) however, realistically we need the points to stay in touch. Anyway you boys ain't going to be an issue once a few transfer window departures and the inevitable injuries ravage your paper thin squad winkwink

'Realistically' entirely depends upon the degree of financial commitment from the BoD and CEO. Any of the names mentioned are feasible depending upon them deciding to spend the available £££s needed for compensation, remuneration, transfer budget etc. Which is why my expectations are very low (... IMO it will be Phelan).

I actually think Warnock would be a good choice for Norwich and i'm not saying that in jest.

Who knows who can be tapped up, but i'd suggest Howe and McCarthy are way off being poached.

Quite. MM is notoriously loyal and why would he waste the 2 years work he has built up to take a step backwards? Money does talk but success (or the whiff of it) talks louder.

Intriguing choice, he's still a player but has clearly done a good job. Not exactly a high quality league, it's a very small town (I know many are North of the border) but when compared to the likes of Hibs/Hearts etc Hamilton are very much punching above their weight. Might just do the trick for you, I expect he'll be progressive which might suit the quality squad Norwich have in this league. Better than Warnock et al IMO.

Alex Neil fker biggrin

I know, I know, easy to boast. Good result today and to be fair, thought you guys were unlucky today against Derby.

Tbh, I honestly think todays result is down to Mike Phelen. Alex Neil did most definitely come down at half time and shout his bks off, but credit today goes to Phelan and Holt.

Let's hope this is a kick start to our inconsistent season. The rum and coke, this time, will be in celebration.

Yes, thank you for doing us massive favour today.

Disappointing to have a blip but it had to happen some time. Luckily our neighbours stepped up to the plate for us.

Ha, you're welcome CVM. As you say, it's only a blip. Derby are certainly contenders this year so don't be to downbeat on todays result. I would actually (and keep this st quiet) quite like to see us both in the prem. The 'old farm derby' in the prem is always a good thing.

Best of luck for the remainder of the season.

P.S I secretly hope you fail catastrophically biggrin
