I've been watching the Swans very closely and he is basically the metronome that makes them tick. Most of the play goes through him and I see him as an absolute perfect foil for Lucas freeing up Gerrard to do what he does best. I think he'll be a fantastic signing for us and sorely missed at the Liberty I'm afraid to say.

As a liverpool fan I know nothing about this lad other than paper talk and what I have watched of the Olympics.

I assume BR wanted him as he knows the style, player etc, he will fit in pretty quick I am sure.

Question is how good is he? As a footballer nobody is worth 15m so fk the price, what will he bring to LFC, will you chaps find it hard/easy to replace?

Good luck for the season. smile
Not with £15m (snigger) hehe

I think you do a disservice to a certain Mr Britton there HR who IMO is the more important player to the Swans... wink

It depends what you want for your £15m I guess.

Goals and assists are not Allen's thing. He is not a dead-ball specialist (in fact his corner delivery is weak). He is short so not going to win anything in the air.

What he will offer is:

- quick-passing and high pass completion ratio
- movement
- awareness of space
- excellent touch with either foot
- will give your defenders confidence to pass it short rather than hoof it - he rarely loses the ball
- a lot of energy and terrier like harrasing of opposition players
- a never say die attitute

As HR alluded to in an earlier post - he is a slightly less classy but more dogged Xabi Alonso.

If you think the above is worth £15m then enjoy!

Thanks for the reply.

He might not be worth 15m to you but he does sound like the player we need, we have a gap in our squad for this type of player.

Dude. I was watching Leon from the North Bank in League 2 against Shorpe after he was bought with money clubbed together by the fans!! He's good but Joe is on another level imo.

Don't get me wrong, we would love him to stay as he is grounded in the Swansea way and was integral to our perfomances last season.

But if you had told me 2/3 years ago when he was cutting his teeth in League 1 that we would get £15m for him one day I would have laughed in your face.

Receiving £15m for anybody was inconceivable for many many years so although on the one hand there is an emotional loss as Joe has been at the club since he was 9, £15m for him plus the £5m we got for Rodgers should set us up for a long time - fair play, this is what Rodgers wanted (to protect Swansea City FC).

I hope he does brilliantly and good luck to you guys too!

I am with you - those were the days!

I think the two together are the oil that kept the machine ticking, they are both similar players (although Leon does a better job of breaking up play). On balance I would rather keep Allen as he is younger and quicker.

But Leon will do - he was free too!

To be honest, the future is bright for our midfield from what I have seen of De Guzman and Michu - just hope we can keep the momentum and not lose any more of our core 11 from last season.

Lot of rumours that Sinclair is off to City!

£15m is a lot to Swansea, though obviousley Allen will be a big miss. Do you really see them investing in the stadium, rather than the team?

Who've you brought in so far this summer? Who's this Michu guy, a striker? I'd rather the cash be put back into building the team, that sort of money could buy 2 or 3 really decent prem players to strengthen your squad.

How's the pre season gone for you guys? As a Norwich fan, I'm not very optomistic for our chances.

Alex,

£15m is an incredible amount of money for us. Added to the £5m we got for Rodgers plus the Prem TV rights we are pretty much quids in.

We will miss Allen as he was a major cog and I worry about the loss of continuity. However, so far we have brought in Michu:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miguel_P%C3%A9rez_Cue...

who single-handedly kept Rayo Vallecano from relegation from La Liga (scoring 14 goals from midfield) - £2m.

Jonathan De Guzman we have in on loan from Villareal - he was a potential Dutch star who has not lived up to his potential...yet.

And some centre-back called Chico Flores who is to replace Steven Caulker.

Think we have spent £5m in total.

Stadium expansion / purchase of the council is a possibility, although I would rather see the money go on the proposed Academy, plus some defensive cover and a decent striker to give Graham competition.

Pre-season tour to America was ok - held a top MLS side to a 2-2 draw. Just beat strong Blackpool team 4-2 with a Graham hat-trick. Think the Laudrup approach is attack attack attack! Could be interesting...

What's going on at Norwich? Other than losing Lambert I have not followed much else.

Sounds intresting then. I forgot you lost Caulker too, who was a big part of your defence last season. Losing him, Allen and Gylfi has left some major holes, but sounds as if Laudrup has moved quickley and quietly getting in a few players.

Its been a slow summer at Norwich. Firstly we were rocked when Holty handed in his transfer request, then Lambert left soon after, in a very messy way. I was pleased to see Hughton come in, he was top of most fans lists. We've signed Whittaker from Rangers on a free, Butterfield from Barnsley who's a midfielder who a few premier league clubs where intrested in, Snodgrass from Leeds and Michael Turner from Sunderland, and Holt signed a new contract. We lost Kyle Naughton, who was on loan from Spurs, and 1 or 2 squad players, so we're not much weaker than last season.

Our pre-season has been pretty uninspiring, though its difficult to draw conclusions from it. We've kept 4 clean sheets in the last 5 games against Celtic, Peterborough, Hull and MK Dons, so nothing much to shout about, but we only kept 3 in the league all last season. I went to watch us play against Ajax at home, it was 1-1, but the game was so poor it was untrue. We managed 1 shot on target, which was free kick for the goal. Holt looked a bit on the heavy side.

I'm really not very confident about the coming season. Its going to be a struggle. I don't think Hughton really knows his best line up yet. I'd still like us to sign a decent striker, we look a little light up front. It'll be tight down the bottom, the teams that have come up have spent a fair bit, also I think Wigan and WBA will struggle as well as ourselves, QPR have signed a lot of players, but tbh, nobody whom I'm that jelous of as such, apart from Hoilett, I think they will still be down the bottom end. Also youselves and Stoke I'd expect to be bottom half.

I'll take 17th now please...

IMO Leon is the bigger cog, what he does for the swans wouldn't 'work' in another team (if that makes sense!!). Not sorry to see Joe go for £15m.

(And if were into a pixxing competition laugh,I saw Leon make his debut at a very cold and wet Exeter and chucked a few quid into the 'Battle for Britton' buckets biggrin ,oh how far we've come bounce )
