Just finished overhauling my brakes.
Front calipers refurbished by Godspeed, rears painted by me, and I did new pads all round, 2 new drilled and grooved front discs, and bled the entire brake system, feeling much better !
I did the same but with Bigg Redd doing the refurb, went for stainless steel braided brake lines too.Front calipers refurbished by Godspeed, rears painted by me, and I did new pads all round, 2 new drilled and grooved front discs, and bled the entire brake system, feeling much better !
Had to get the white enamel paint out and go over the enbossed Subaru on the calipers as I dont think they look right all in one colour.
Looks a lovely car, classics are the best
Love the car to bits, so capable, and so much fun !
Just treated myself to this STI 6 months ago 320 bhp from the factory. Love the noise the colour the power, is addictive. Love my mantas also. but 25 or so years of technology improvements is amazing. wouldn't give them up for the world. Enjoyed reading the comments and seeing the pics in this thread.....
Its pleasing to see people refurbing their 4pot brakes and not spending out on big brake kits.
They are actually good callipers and most of the poor braking performance is just down to the fact that they are just worn. In fact Subaru robbed them from the Nissan who had them designed for the much heavier 300ZX.

Looks awesome fat boy! Very interested to hear about it, boost threshold etc?
My 2.5 p1 has an RCM450 Mapped by Paul B too and it's great, only 1.6 bar but feels amazing. Wish I had more power
At the top end though, the power band is only 3-6k rpm. Limiter is 6500.
600bhp from the GT35R?

Just looking for some guidance please as I am new to Subaru impreza. I got some dull clunks coming from the front end, I am overhauling the brakes at the minute, new discs and pads. I get the feeling it may be the driveshafts, any thoughts please, appreciated. Don't think its suspension as when she is up to speed there are no issues, noises only during slow manovering. Thanks. Enjoying the thread.

They seem to eat CV joints. Get it up on the lift and see what's what. If that's what it is, I have a spare on my shelf.mantadaft100 said:
thanks for the reply, I am guessing the whole driveshaft doesn't have to be replaced, is it likely to be one side or both? Probably best to do both I guess.
You can replace the whole thing if you like, but the joint is straight forward enough to replace on it's own. Not a big job either way. When you get it up you might even find the boot is leaking which caused the failure. The nice MOT man kindly poked a screwdriver straight through mine...
Hi Ian / Lefty,
I've not driven it yet - getting it tomorrow from Paul, but on the RCM dyno it did 560bhp/circa 480ftlb with a bar of boost by 3800rpm or so.
Should be sprightly with just 1290kg to push along... The same BHP as a current M5 but getting on for a tonne lighter
Probably could go over the magic 600 number with a few tweaks (or just take it to a more forgiving dyno;)) but the brief has always been a tractable wide power band fast road and occasional track day car. I suspect that this will be plenty for the road!
Paul says it drives very well on the road with the boost threshold even lower than on the dyno.
Re refurbing 4 pots: These are my (dirty) Alcon/Prodrive original calipers with a replacement two piece Performance Friction rotor and Pagid pads set up. Miles better than the original one piece rotor and DS 2500 pads. AS Performance do the kit. (Copaslip around the studs)

I do indeed. The PF Z is the best I have used bar none (DS2500's M1144's etc).
They give immense performance, and are completely consistent throughout the temperature range both in performance and pedal feel. From the first cold brake right up to stinking hot. I use them on my Impreza Type R and my Forester STi which both see serious hooning.
There is minimal dust, no noise at all and disc wear is kind too. These characteristics seem consistent with other users.
I have heard the combo with the discs you have is even more impressive. I personally have no track experience, but over on the Forester forum there are two users who have and they report the same findings
Very highly recommended
