This is mine.
Not done a great deal to it modification wise;
3" Decat system
3 Port Denso Boost Solenoid
ID 100cc injectors
Custom Induction kit
TD05-20G with larger exhaust housing (Means it's a bit laggy, but to suit future plans)
Fuelab FPR
H&R ARB's
CDF Drop Links
CDF ALK
RB320 Suspension
Vredestein Rubber
Carbonne Lorrain RC5+ Pads
Reconditioned Brembo's
Brembo Discs (For now, going to be upgraded to PF Discs and Bells)
Future Plans;
Fully Forged Closed Deck 2.5
Higher Lift Cams (Still deciding on setup)
Syvecs ECU
MDX321V or SC46 Turbo
Anyway, this is the car.

Not bought one yet but looking to chop my Golf GTi in for a blob/hawk eye. Got around £9k to spend (but would like to spend as little of that as possible!) and really have my eye set on an STi. I have a couple of Qs and this seems the best place to ask.
- am I going to get a tidy STi for £9k? Not after concours but would like something mechanically cared fore around 50-60k with fresh belts. Am I dreaming?
- how 'easy' is it to get around 350hp?
- where are the best communities/forums for advice?

All very doable with that budget. 350bhp isn't hard - that's what mine has and it has different air filter, exhaust and remap. My car is a Litchfield Type 20 so was modded by them but power wise nothing complex was done. See if you can find a Japanese import with the 2 litre engine - better spec than UK (have a google) and the Jap 2.0 is stronger than the likes of the UK 2.5.- am I going to get a tidy STi for £9k? As above, best to try and find a JDM STi, but there's still nothing wrong with the UK ones (2.0 versions that is), they have good engines capable of over 450bhp as standard.- am I going to get a tidy STi for £9k? JDM Cars are 2.0 twin scrolls, the UK Blobeyes are 2.0 single scrolls, the UK Hawkeyes are 2.5 Single scrolls but the pistons aren't the greatest and are pretty much at their power limit at 350bhp and they may end up requiring forged internals.
Panel Filter, Decat exhaust and a remap should see you to 350bhp (ish), depending on model, not sure the VF35 (from UK Blobeye) can do 350, but the VF43 from the Hawk can. Easy swap out and they're not that expensive.
Good forums are Scottish Scoobies, 22b, plenty of good info on them and Scoobynet, bit hit and miss with certain people but generally OK place to be.
get someone well known to map the car for you, they'll get the best out of it. I've personally used Andy Forrest and Bob Rawle, both excellent and would highly recommend. Also heard very good things about Simon (Jolly Green Monster) who is also on here and they all run race spec Impreza's which gives you a bit more confidence in them.
£9k is easily enough to buy a good car, it may already have the power you're looking for too. So best of luck and happy hunting.
Be warned. You'll want more than 350bhp, probably 400 once you're used to it, then you'll want 450, then 500 etc etc etc, it's an addictive, slippery slope

Thought I was going nuts for a minute, saw these over on p1woc!
Nice looking project, that GT40 is huge! I assume that was on a 2.5 or even a 2.6?
I decided against running the GT40, so going for something like a Borg warner efr 7670 for a spooly 550bhp. Its going on a destroked 2.5 so about 2.36 Nice looking project, that GT40 is huge! I assume that was on a 2.5 or even a 2.6?

Is it just me or has that gigantic turbo sucked up a small boy in a blue track suit?
Maybe for safety's sake get a filter on there, think of the children!

The best newage they ever made the 2005. Price seems reasonable, but if anything a touch high for the mileage. Gassing Station | Subaru | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
