Is it too much to hope that it's a screw on, screw off job? If you'll pardon the expression!

Yes, you just unscrew the original. You shoud be fine Is it too much to hope that it's a screw on, screw off job? If you'll pardon the expression!
At the garage at the moment, gone through the MOT fine and they're just doing a service. Changing the plugs as they said they've not be done before looking at the history.
Now it's got through that ok I can think about some winter wheels and tyres. Then a decent stereo
BTW - when it rains the windows mist up quite quickly, and one of the back ones shows up the imprint of a label that used to be there that says Subaru Sheerness, so presumably they have never been cleaned.

Re Stereo:
THe principle thing lacking in the Subaru is the sound deadening and mounting of the speakers in the doors. Make sure you get sound deadening applied to the inside of the outer door skins, and if you're doing a proper job consider getting proper "baffles" made up which mount the speakrs to the inner door skin more firmly, and a second layer of sound deadening around the speaker mount points on the inner door skin.
It's the flimsy and undeadened mounting of the door speakers that robs imprezas stereos of any sound quality, and you should spend money improving this, or else you'll be wasting any money spent on a better head unit or speakers or anything else.

And the fact the the headunit is shocking in terms of sound quality. But, yes, sound deaden the doors and get proper speaker mounts.
I had a pukka sound system in my old WRX Genesis amps, all 4 door speakers replaced with rainbows (and amp powered) and a few subs. It sounded phenomenal...

Thanks for all the stereo and speaker info, I'm taking it all on board. I was trying to be sensible tonight and asked the guy to look out for some wheels and then get some winter tyres for me. My OH who was with me got a bit carried away and was asking about remaps and making the exhaust burble. I think it was the sight of all those imprezas and evos
Bumping my old thread rather than starting a new one. So I'm looking for some cheap alloys to put some winter tyres on, I think I've got the hang of the various numbers, I'd just like a quick confirmation that these would fit. I've checked that they're 5x100 and between 38 and 45ET but am I missing anything? I know they're not 17s but the guy at the garage said 16s would fit over the brakes.
BTW I'm not looking at these in particular, just wondering if I can look at a wider range of wheels than I have been.

Well according to the reader at the garage there was no fault found. Could it have been due to the amount of rain recently?
WRX wagon and used to have the same thing where CEL came on after heavy rain then go off after a day or so. Subaru specialist thought it was a sensor but could not see anything. His rummaging around seemed to have removed the problem as had no CEL in the past year except for this Christmas.Car did not move between 25 Dec and 01 Jan and weather was miserable. When starting the car on 02 Jan, the CEL came on but after commute to work and back, the light was off the next day. Airflow is probably drying the sensor but I tend to drive extra carefully when the light comes on.
