Yours looks great in silver! Have you driven a non-PPP version?
Thanks.. Yes I have driven quite a few ,tho that was a few years ago. The Hawkeye , be it PPP or standard , is still so torquey and responsive I love it and think it's got better every generation of wagon that has come out.. main difference I'd say is a more intense "shove" you get at full boost . As I said it was a few years ago tho. When I was buying mine I wasn't looking for a PPP'd one , it just happened to have it..and it sounds mad but the hastle of the majority of insurance companies not recognising the PPP / ridiculous premiums as it is "modified" I sometimes wish it didn't have it . Don't get me started! mad

Chaps, it is possible to retro fit roof rails like on Goldmember's WRX? If so, where can I buy them? I've had a look on eBay but there isn't much there.

I have to say the car looks sweet without rails.

I think so. I was going to do that as well. But I think.the roof lining needs to come off to fix it and takes several hours to fit The bars are in the Subaru catalogue. Give your local dealer a call. I just went with some bars from Thule.

At least you can remove and fit the Thule as and when you like with no hassle.

eek I never even noticed that! In all the 10 years I've been around Subarus I've never seen a WRX without rails confused
Just checked to protect my sanity and it seems it was an option on the Hawkeyes .. all Bug and Blobeye WRX Wagons definately all had rails.

As you were ..

Thanks mate. Suspected tensioners have worn out, currently with a Subaru main dealer (don't know and Indies yet) and will hear back Monday.

Sounds like bad luck. Hopefully you're in a good dealer network. Where abouts are you located?

It sounds suspect to me.

Do you know if the dealer did tensioner/idlers as well when they did the cambelt? They should have.

With such little mileage it's strange to have tensioner wear out so early on regardless it's 6yrs old. FFS it's only done 27K miles eek That's nothing!!

Well, the Subaru garage finally got back to me, and the news could not be worse. The timing tensioner bolt was loose and had sheered right off. It looks like the bolt was cross threaded and not sitting correctly, i.e. at an angle, which has resulted in the cambelt going loose.

This has lead in all probability to bent valves and damaged cyclinder header. Goodness knows what else. All because a main dealer fitted the tensioner incorrectly when changing the cambelt.

Pretty gutted right now - I brought the best WRX I could afford (it was the most expensive available) and this happens frown

In defence of your Subaru, it wasn't a reliability problem but one of human error so cannot blame the car for that.

Hopefully you won't have to pay for it yourself if there is a warranty on your motor and will be as good as new when done. Please tell me there is a warranty on your motor.

Nightmare. Sorry to hear this!

Surely Subaru will need to fix this at their cost regardless of warranty!?

Thanks fellas. So down about it all, it was such a perfect car in great condition (26k miles!) and my PH smiley turned up today as well cry

Thank goodness there is a warranty of kinds - I think the dealer will take the car back and take it up with the Subaru main dealer who fudged the tensioner.

frown Sorry to hear about this .. gutted for you. Similar thing happened to me on my previous '05 wagon the day after I picked it up! ( altho' it wasn't a tensioner , it was more " Don't know how that happened" rolleyes). Cue some heated phonecalls , raised voices , raised blood pressure , and the garage taking the car back to rebuild the engine!
Good luck mate , most definately should get covered by the warranty as it's dealer error ( kinda like mine as I know the car was fine when I test-drove it , then it had the timing belt service done the day before I picked it up .. too coincidental!).
At least when you get the car back it'll put a big smile back on your face and you'll know the engine is warrantied and as good as new. driving

Thanks GM.

I'm afraid to say my time with this car is over. I cannot be without a car for the weeks it would take to rebuild the engine, and if the dealer can fudge a simple tensioner what they going to do with a rebuild? I don't trust them.

I'm getting my money back. Problem is, there are no Wagons around at the moment and I need a car urgently..... Looking at a run around shed tomorrow frown

What sort of money do you want to spend maximum?

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use... (This one has PPP and SL spec - Sunroof & Full Leather).
Mileage isn't out of the question and it has a FSSH so may well be worth a punt and should be cheaper if paying in pound notes and if you're a good haggler.
