Thanks for the input. I'm afraid the situation is now a little worse.

I took the car, was quite happy with it, then about 20 mins into my journey home the 'height hi' light started flashing again. Then on came the VDC Off, and also the red CHECK ENGINE light to join the party.

No mechanical symptoms of anything untoward.

Then, all lights went out, no warnings at all. It seems the longer I drive it, the less often they are occurring. But then I just went out to let it run for a while and on they come again.

I have spoken to the guy who is "not a trader", but has a mechanic with a garage etc, and he has said to take it back tomorrow and they will run a diagnostic. If I'm still unhappy, then he will take the car back and return my £1k.

Right now, my preferred choice is to take the £1k. Such as a shame as I love the car.

Sack it off, take the money back, the suspension has a problem and they have "fixed it" without sorting the leak and now this. You will need to sort this later on. Extra £££.

i would walk away from the "not a dealer" as he is trying to make money out of a lemon and abdicate the responsibility of not properly fixing up motors that have issues.

And sacked off it has been. Money returned, and a new car purchased already. And what an absolute bargain it is.

BMW 318i Touring. 110k, FSH, new tyres,MOT to Oct, drives incredibly well, £900. I feel like I have stolen it.

Good lad, shame as the legacy's are cracking cars, just a shame the dealer wasn't a good one.
