Hi
Whats a reasonable cost per hour for a garage which claims to be a japanese specialist?
I got quoted £120+VAT to fit front brake pads, braided hoses and replace the fluid. All parts are suplied by me, this is just the labour cost!
Seemed a bit high for what is a fairly simple job.
Unless I am being unrealistic...?

Unless I am being unrealistic...? Most garages are charging between £50-£65p/h which is not unreasonable. By what you have been quoted they are probably charging £55-£60p/h and taking a couple of hours or so to do the job. Sounds about right to me. If begs the question....If it's that simple a job to do then aren't you doing it yourself? If you answer...."I don't have the time", or "Don't the tools or facilities to do it", then you have to accept that there is a charge for the convenience of having a garage to do the job for you. I don't think you are being ripped off unless they do a s te job!

I don't think you are being ripped off unless they do a s te job! I dont mind paying at all. Just wanted to make sure it was a reasonable amount. I did actually pick up the spanners to do the job myself, but things are seized up and not coming undone, so rather than risk buggering it up or snapping screw heads, I've accepted that someone else might have to do it. Brakes are kinda important.

Ask their labour rate, but that seems fair to me. On the basis that discs and pads is just shy of an hours labour and doing a proper flush of the fluid and fitting braided lines is non trivial.

just one caveat....
If nuts and bolts are really seized and they cannot be undone come hell or high water then it's going to cost extra the more time it takes them to remove said nuts and bolts. They may have to cut them off in which case expect to pay more than £120+vat.

People seem to think/expect that it's done for free.
