Are you near Ipswich mate?. I've got an 07 hawk and wouldn't mind hearing what yours sounded like with that 'zorst on it smile

Is it just the backbox you're changing or full system eventually?. Must admit my system is looking a bit tired and I just lurve the sound of that flat 4 burble.....

Cheers
Pete
Yeah not too far, I'm in Bury st Eds, so up for a meet and a chat if you want to hear it.

At the moment its just the back box, wasn't really planning on changing the whole system, but I was planning on keeping the car standard so who knows laugh

I do want to keep it MOT friendly with out having to mess around with the cats, so if I did do the full system I would want high flow cats (and a re-map) to get the most out of it and thats a bit out of my budget at the minute. Maybe something for the future.

It does sound bloody good though!

Hi,
I know a few of the "bury lads" who hang around up there from a while ago, I used to spend some time up there with my Lancer Turbo back in the day. Bury seems to be fast car central these days, I've heard yarns of tuned EVO 9's, M3 CSL's and a crazy 700 hp+ Chrysler kicking about!.

I may well pop up there some time soon, probably one weekend, I'll give you a shout on here if you're about.

A remap is just out of my budget as well, to be honest I'd go the same route as yourself, full CAT pipe, remap and a panel filter. Trying to get a reputable mapper is no easy task though. Also, I'm not sure between open source or Ecutek - which is better or indeed the differences. I'd feel a bit of a doofus putting up a post on Scoobynet.....All this Scooby stuff is new to me, give me a good old 80's Jap classic any day of the week smile

Cheers
Pete

I don't really know any of the bury lot as I don't really cruise the town and out of all my mates I'm the only one who has any interest in cars, so just tend to do my own thing, have seen a hand full hawkeye scoobs around in the last few weeks though and a guy down the road from me has an interesting looking one, not seen him to have a chat yet but hopefully I'll catch him one day.

Theres a nice sounding black Evo (6 I think) I've seen around the town a few times and a white one with a massive intercooler poking through the bumper, haven't seen that one for a while though.
Seen alot of interesting modified jap cars along the A143 in the last few days too.

Also was in town last night when a very loud volvo (not sure what model) gold with green checks on the wing came drifting round a round-a-bout, I no its immature and shouldn't be encouraged but it put a big smile on my face.

Before I think about a re-map I want to get a xedy clutch fitted, thats the next thing on the shopping list but wont be for a while yet. Thinking about just getting it all done at Scoobyworld in one go along with what ever else they suggest, they use ECU-Tek so thats what I will probably have done, but they also have a sim tek option too.

http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog/product_info....

Not too sure about the difference between open source and others though, I think its just the copy write in the code which means that independent mappers can't use the ECU-Tek or other companies copy written maps so the open source stuff will have slightly different torque/power curves? I'm sure theres probably a lot more to it but I think I'd feel happier spending my cash on something I knew had been tried and tested and the risk of destroying the engine minimised.

Well my best intentions of sorting the bumper out at the weekend didn't get off the ground, a sum total of nothing done on the car over the bank holiday weekend, plenty of food eaten and beer drunk though.

A few more deliveries arrived today.

Received this box from Opie oils

Nothing too exciting, 5 ltrs of gearbox and diff oil and a clay bar, but they did chuck this in too.

Free air freshener, the best type of air freshener! thumbup Thanks mr Oilman.

and finally got my hands on these today

I think they should look good once fitted (tomorrows priority job!)

Also got some rally blue wheel nuts to stick them on with.
Still waiting on my brake lines but I may as well fit the EBC pads at the same time as I have the wheels off tomorrow. party

Not too sure what to do with my other alloys, they def need a refurb as they are all curbed and pretty knackered, but the tyres still have loads of tread so I may well hang onto them for winter duties as I'm sure sport contacts will be better than the toyo proxies in the british winter. Having said that the car fund could use a top up so ebay is a tempting option.
Something to think about anyway.

(you can also see the shocking brick work on my house in those pics! Another reason why my car fund is down to zero again grumpy)

Busy few days.

Went to fit the new pads yesterday.

The rears went ok, just gunked up with crap and rust, a little bit of working free and everything went fine. Definitely in need of a change though!
Looks like rear disks will be next on my shopping list too, The fronts look a lot better but will probably change all 4 at the same time.

Tried to fit the wheels and found the spacers supplied with the fitting kit were the wrong size. The outside diameter been far too big to fit in the wheel.

At this point I got a bit fed up and was running late for something so left the front brakes and slapped the old wheels back on.
Called wheelbase and after a bit of measuring guess work (no vernier at my house so had to use a steel rule and guesstimate) they told me they would send the correct spacers.

Was amazed this morning when the postie dropped off a set of spacers! Pretty scensoredt hot customer service I have to say, very impressed with wheelbase, wasn't expecting to get the wheels fitted any time soon but they seem well on the ball.
What was even more amazing was that my ropey measurements were spot on and the spacers fitted.

So back on the jack to do the front brakes and get the wheels fitted.

The fronts are just as bad as the rears, I got the first securing pin (not sure if thats the correct term?) out of the calliper. The other was stuck solid and I managed to mushroom the end of it trying to hammer it out with a drift, so will need to find my needle files to sort that out.
It then started bucketing it down, I got soaked and decided to just whack the new wheels on and get home and dry and sort the brakes out when it's not pcensoreding down!

Any way a few picks, car needs a good clean too. From doing the brakes it looks like the whole underside could use a good pressure wash as well. Filthy under there!

Hopefully can get the front brakes done saturday. The car stops better already with just the new rears and they will still be bedding in, no noises or squeals though so happy with that and they really did need doing and I'm really happy with how the new wheels look too.

Edit; Not sure why the last two pictures ended up upside down. Oh well tongue out

Slow going with the car these last few weeks, mainly due to the terrible weather but also laziness on my part.

Finally got the strut brace and blow off valve delivered. Strut brace went on, no problems, the blow off valve also fitted fine, the only problem was, I couldn't get the pipe clip for the recirc pipe back on once it was blanked off with the bung provided.

Fortunately my neighbour happened to pull into our street whilst I was struggling and offered me a jubilee clip from his garage to use instead thumbup
Made the job so much easier.

The old valve removed.

And fitting the new valve.

So now the engine bay looks like this.........

I was in two minds about fitting a blow off valve, I guess its quite chavvy and totally unnecessary but really glad I did, it puts a massive smile on my face every time I hear the woosh noise (childish I know) and just adds to the fun of driving it.

Also with the good weather this weekend I finally got round to doing the front pads.
The near side was a complete pain, the calliper pin I had damaged took a good hour to get out, had to make quite a few drifts to force it out and the use of bigger and bigger hammers were required, but got there in the end and the pin cleaned up ok and with a bit of filing was ok to use again.
The off side was simple and had it finished in half an hour.
The front pads were pretty good actually, plenty of life left but as I had the pads to fit I changed them.

My piston compressor laugh

So now the car has EBC red stuff pads all round, really happy with them, not done all that many miles on them so I suspect the break in coating still wont have worn off but they feel great and a lot more confidence inspiring than the ones on the car previously.
