Mike, theres only one way to get your car diagnosed properly to sort out these running issues. Throwing you one suggestion after another won't sort it. It needs some meaningful time and effort spent on your wheels by a specialist to come up with proper diagnosys and fixes.
without physically being there, hooking up equipment and spending a day or two tracking faults i really don't know what else to suggest.

That depends on where you go and how long it takes. Hourly rates can go from £50-£65p/h +vat.
I'm pretty sure you have more than one fault going on with your car. That can make diagnosis quicker as sometimes one thing can trigger other ghost faults and back tracking is easy.
Alternatively they could all be separate faults in which case diagnosis will take longer. Also, if you have wiring faults that could take even longer again to diagnose as there is no piece of automatic test equipment you can plug into the loom to tell you which wires are causing faults, stuff needs to be tracked back through the loom in case there are shorts, corroded or broken wires. Could be something as simple as your ECU is buggered and needs replacement, who knows till it's looked at.
You may have to leave it with a specialist for a few days while he fits in diagnosis around other customers cars too, specially when they are busy and even though he might only need to spend a few hours on it.
There's no way of telling until you get it in the shop and looked at.

Honestly Mike, your car needs to be looked at. It has underlying issues that need proper diagnosis and no matter what i suggest, i don't think it's going to sort your problem.
I honestly hope it is something really simple that is easily and cheaply rectified but i'm not sure that is the case.

I don't know of anyone in your neck of the woods and there aren't that many around that i would even think are competent enough to do the fault finding. I certainly wouldn't go to a main dealer as they are hopeless, and I wouldn't go to a normal garage as they won't know what they are doing with a scooby,
You really need to see an independent scooby specialist. I might have a day next week if i can jiggle stuff around but i've got a lot on between now and then and i'm starting to get quite busy now anyway.
Give me a call later on this week or over the weekend and i can see if i can fit you in. You've got my card.
