Just put the winter tyres on my Classic, and they are 205/55/16, not the more usual 205/50/16. Having looke around, the 55s do seem to have a far greater choice of tyre and are also cheaper than the 50s.

Are there any particular reasons for not running on a new set of 55s when I put new summer tyres on?

The rolling radius is about 6cm more, which will make the speedo under read by 3.4% or so, (ie probably about spot on now).

Have I missed anything?

(slightly higher sidewalls might be beneficial when I replace the tired suspension with coilovers later in the year I guess?)

I would have said no issues, and with coilovers as you've said will soften the ride a touch. Good hit if it saves money.

I've got 2 sets of standard wheels for oh's MY00 wagon, winters are 205-55 & summers are 205-50. Not massive difference between them, 55s feel slightly less precise when pressing on but thats about it. Run 205-40-17 on my MY00 saloon and the difference in precision is more noticeable but still not massive, I do prefer it though. With the way roads are heading round here I can see the sense in your plan.

Thinking of some summer tyres now, anybody got any experience of these bad boys - Bridgestone RE002 Potenza Adrenalins?

In the 55 section tyres they are available significantly cheaper than the 50s, and as I don't seem to be able to sell my car I may as well put some decent tyres on it!

It does indeed Matt, it does indeed!

It'll be a few quid on paintwork next, to get it looking a bit mintier, and then a set of Daiyama Coilovers no doubt!

(And then a remap and exhaust, and all of a sudden I'll have a £3k GF8!
