So now got the up-pipe and sports cat.
So before a put it all on, I have also been reading about the Solenoid valve and getting one that can be used for re-mapping.

Is this required, I would assume I already have one.

Does anyone know if this is requid and what it offers?

Better boost control, hold on to that boost further up the rpm scale and make more boost than you can with the standard bleed type 2-port boost control solenoid setup. smile

Ah I see... Do I require one of these to get a re-map?

Maybe the better question would be.: would it help the re-mapping if I were to buy one of these?

I am only after circa 300Bhp, just to make it run smoother.

Good point,

2005 wrx wagon

All purchased and Soon to be fitted:

K&N panel filter
De-cat up pipe
200 cell sports cat down pipe
Pro drive back box.

Hoping that will sort it out.

As I said I am not after Big power just want it to spool quicker and be more responsive.

Hoping re-mapping will sort that out.

Well at the going rate of £600 for a re-map I bloody hope so! .... Lol

600 for a remap. Christ on a bike, who's doing the mapping...GOD? Sounds like an EcuTek remap. You should be able to get a really good Open Source Remap for your car for less than 500 including the vat and anything else.

You have to remember one thing, it's not the tools that make the tuner work, it's the tuner that makes the tools work. Your remap is only as good as the tuner doing it. Beware the 2hr remap is all i will say.

It takes a lot longer than 2hrs to fully custom remap a scooby. 4-5hrs minimum, often longer to get it absolutely spot on and driving like you want it to drive.

I would ask of the tuner you end up going to how long it takes before you book up and spend t he money. If they say a couple of hours go elsewhere and find a tuner that will take good care and attention and spend the time to get your remap as good as it can be.

ETA: Remap on a WRX with standard injectors and turbo will get you between 270-280bhp safely on a setup with just one cat converter. You have 3 on a WRX. If someone has promised you 300bhp it ain't going to happen whether you have one cat or none. You need to upgrade the turbo and injectors for more.

How much would you expect to pay for open source re-map? Are there any drawbacks? Is OBD still available? What sort of gains would I get on a standard (or with ppp) newage sti. looking to replace my scoob for widetrack sometime this year and fancy it bit more go without making the car look or sound modified and attracting the interest of plod and teenage boy racers.
